Yomraih

Yomraih is the land of shifting sands, deep culture, and religious piety. The glory days of Yomraih have long since past . Now the nation struggles with roaming warlords seeking to claim territory and citizens who have loyalty to the church rather than the nation as it is. Despite their tumultuous climate, the religion holds the people of Yomraih together for the common good of the nation. That is, as long as you are one of the faithful. There is no law in Yomraih that outlaws any one religion, but rather the people of Yomraih must participate in the church to garauntee their rights as citizens such as to fair treatment by the church or local lords loyal to the Valsylic.

The constant danger pervading Yomraih belittles it's natural beauty. A land of golden deserts and red stone canyons are considered some of the most scenic natural wonders in the land. The central region of Yomraih holds one of Anatole's greatest wonders: the Sandsea. An ever shifting desert whose sands have become so fine and soft that they are almost like water. Many scholars are in disagreement as to the cause of this phenomenon, though most offer supernatural causes.   The seat of power in Yomraih, the Valsylic church, is widely considered to be the world's foremost center of religious philosophy and theology. The Grand Temple of The Valsylic, located in the capital city Adu'sallah, is not only a jewel of architecture, but also a revered sacred site to even those who aren't part of the church. In additon to the Temple, Adu'sallah is home to one of only two schools that trains and studied the arcane arts.

Structure

Yomriah is a theocratic state whose power rests in the hands of the 9 Ras'alkanisa (roughly chosen of god). Each Ras'alkanisa is selected by their coresponding church. It is beleived that among mortals, these 9 individuals are closest to their respective gods. In the capital city of Yomraih, Adu'sallah, sits one of the most grand structures ever built by man: the Grand Valsylic Temple. Originally, this temple served as the seat of the government, but has not been so for over 100 years. The Grand Valsylic Temple is a 10 sided building, stretching high above the surrounding buildings. 9 of the 10 sides each house a wing dedicated to a separate God.

Public Agenda

Yomraih believes that the world should be united under one religion, the Valsylic Faith. In the past, Yomraih developed extreme aggression towards outside states resulting in the events of the Early Wars. Currently, Yomraih is far too weak a nation to pursue direct conquest. They are content with spreading their religion across the world in hopes that the wise will see folly in other faiths.

Assets

Yomraih was once the most powerful nation upon Anatole. Years of over stretching their might during occupations and the desertification of a large portion of their region has severely crippled the once great nation. Yomraih still holds many unique spices and minerals not available in other regions, and thus survives by trade.

Demography and Population

The majority population of Yomraih are Humans . Yomraih humans have much darker skin tones than any of their southern neighbors. Many people in Yomraih have either dark brown or black skin tones with hair that is mostly black. The largest demographic outside of humans in Yomraih is that of The Sylph . Most Sylph tend to stay on the borders of Yomriah seeing as how most are not granted rights under the Valsylic Editcs.

Territories

Yomraih, on a map, is the largest nation of any upon Anatole by a large margin. However, most of the land that Yomraih consider's it's territory is either hostile desert or otherwise unlivable. The majority of the land that is actually occupied lays upon Yomraih's coastlines in the Yomrish and Eastern Seas. Yomriah's north eastern territory is vast and mostly unexplored or uninhabited.

Military

Yomraih has no formal military. In times of war, they must rely upon (and often buy) the forces of the various Shieks and warlords throughout their territories. Some of these lords even believe that they are a nation of their own, though they are not officially recognized as such by any other nation. The situation as it is makes arming and protecting Yomraih extremely difficult. The only times that Yomraih has been able to mount a suitable war effort is when the Ras'Alkanisa have passed edicts conscripting the members of the Valsylic to military action.

Religion

Being a Theocracy, religion is a focal point for Yomraih. The great majority of the Yomrish people are members of the Valsylic church. Thus they recognize the necessity and function of all 9 commonly accepted gods in the Anatolian pantheon, and worship them equally. Where as other areas of anatole have seen tension surrounding the worship of one particular god over the other, the Yomrish people are content to let the differences of the gods become inspiration for diversity in worship rather than diversity in politics or culture.

Foreign Relations

Yomraih holds an odd position in regards to foreign relations with other nations. Yomraih was once seen as a great aggressor to most of the continent, but now has fallen into its current weakened state. However, the faithful who either subscribe to the Valsylic teachings or otherwise consider the Ras'alkanisa of great importance are high in number throughout most of Anatole . This, coupled with Yomraihs numerous luxury exports, leaves nations with little choice but to work with Yomraih. Astrellas has always been openly hostile towards Yomraih due to both nations having a long history of war with one another.

The rules of the people of yomraih are recorded in Edicts written from the Ras'alkanisa. Official edicts can only be passed when seconded by another member, and approved by unanimous voice between the 9 Ras'alkanisa. Due to fundamental disagreements, not many edicts have been passed within the last 100 years.
Judicial Body
Yomraih is very close to laweless. It relies upon a quasi-feudal system to enforce any edicts or writs handed down from the theocracy. However, many of the Sheik (local lords) either disregard or simply go against these edicts. Due to the weak power of the central government, there is not much to be done to remedy this situation. The only line of defense that the people of Yomraih have is the Valsylic church. pledging to be a member of the chruch grants the citizenship in Yomraih as well as the rights of a Yomrish citizen. Non-valsylic yomrish are not protected under any edicts and can be handled however the Sheiks wish.
