Adu'Sallah

Ah Adu'sallah, seat of religious power upon the continent of Anatole. This ancient city is rife with culture, history, and religious art. From it's impressive walls, one could see for miles into the flat lands beyond or unto the rolling seas. The jewel of the city, the Grand Temple can be seen from almost anywhere in the city like a faithful Shepard watching it's flock. The people here are hardy, and sometimes shrewd. They will never skip a chance to either sell you their latest wares or invite you to discuss the faith of their people. Like many cities, Adu'sallah has it's problems with crime and the like, but no other city can truly claim the title The Gods' Jewel such as Adu'sallah.

Demographics

Adu' Sallah is comprised of mostly Human residents. Members of several other races live in the city, but are very uncommon.

Government

Adu'Sallah is the capital of Yomraih and the seat of their Theocratic government.

Defences

Adu'sallah is completely walled. A large inner wall once marked the boundary of the city, but the city has since grown past this border. Many poor or desperate residents live outside of the walls and provide menial labor for meager living. The wall itself stretches in an irregular semi-circle from one coastline to the next. Many watchtowers dot the city walls with ramparts and walkways connecting them all. The wall is inconsistent in design and age due to the many times that it has been broken by natural occurrences or outside forces.

Industry & Trade

Adu'sallah lacks the great factories or textiles of other great cities, but makes for it in their luxury items markets. Exports such as Sylvan Silk, Sage, Salt, Saffron, and many other luxury and mineral goods flow through the city. The majority of the people in Adu'sallah either directly or indirectly contribute to these markets. The expection comes from those working directly for the church or for the Magi College.

Infrastructure

A well-planned sewer system supports the grand city along with cobbled roadways. Adu'sallah is home to a very sizable mercantile ports and thus has several docks to support maritime trade. Being an ancient city, many monuments, public works, and smaller temples are built throughout the city to support its residents. Various grand structures can be fund throughout the city from sweeping arches to towering statues.

Assets

The city is home to several specialty markets throughout the city as well as a fair market district. Many luxury items flow through the city on their way to international markets, creating a great deal of wealth for the city and it's residents. In addition to trade, Adu'sallah has the largest source of clean fresh water in the region. Water is precious in most of Yomraih, making Adu'sallah one of the primary providers of water for all of western Yomraih.

Guilds and Factions

Adu'sallah has a history of both seedy and upstanding organizations. A small section of their city is dedicated to the only population of Daedalin openly living among others. These daedalin have collectively formed a faith based around their patron god, Daedalus. The Black Hand is said to operate within the city, with many beleiving that they have direct time to the Ras'akanisa of The Sinner, though this is only a vague whisper. Lastly, Adu'sallah is hometo several orginizations in suport of the Valsylic curch and their gods such as the Holy Forge, pleasure houses, and mercenary groups.

History

Adu'sallah started as a small city state, and grew in power with the popularity of the Valsylic faith. It is considered to be one of the oldest human cities upon Anatole as well as one of the largest. After the centralizing of power within modern day Yomraih, Adu'sallah was named the capital. Since it has enjoyed a unique postion in global trade due to the high access to luxury goods and stable ports.

Architecture

Yomriah is a dry place, and Adu'sallah is no exception. Buildings in Adu'Sallah are made almost entirely of stone. The hue of stone mostly commonly found reflects a light red color. During sunsets and sunrises, the city almost glows in a hue of reddish amber, giving a beautiful display across the city. Most of the building in Adu'Sallah are simple with the exception of the church, state, and mercantile buildings. The Grand Temple of the Valsylic is one of the few structures that is both intricately carved and set with stained glass. The church, when hit with the light light,reflects the 9 primary colors of the 9 gods across a large courtyard in front of the church itself.

Geography

Adu'sallah sits upon the coast of the Eastern Sea. Rolling hills of scrub lands and sparse farmlands line the outside of the city and beyond that is the arid pains of Yomraih. Fresh water is precious to the people of the city, with the only fresh water source coming from several small springs throughout the city. Many peots and wroters have penned descriptions of the veiw from the city walls. In the right light, the city is bathed in red light only broken by the multi-colored jewel that is the Grand Temple. During the night, one could see for miles over the ocean or flat plains that are to the east and west of Adu'sallah, with naught but abundant starlight to guide one's eyes.

Natural Resources

Must more fertile than the areas surronding it, Adu'sallah is able to reap the benefits of minor faring and herding on the exterior of the city. This, coupled with it's vast supply of clean water ensure that the residents of the city do not starve or go thirsty. The region does hold some mineral resources such as salt, tin, and limestone, but most of these resources are sold within the city itself rather than exported.
