The Humans

Humans are one of the most populous races in crystalis and by far the most diverse. Humans are mainly located on the continent of Anatole with only a few, low population colonies in eastern Shahara. Humans have found their niche in the civilized world; trading, designing, creating, and prospering in almost all of the lands that they inhabit. Humans are almost as varied among themselves as the other races are from one another. Unfamiliar onlookers might think of them as having separate races in themselves. Though color of skin, hair, and eyes may diversify the humans, the blood of adventurers pumps though all of their hearts.
Personality
While all humans personalities are fairly unique; most humans share some key personality traits. Curiosity, courage and longing for peace are just some of the traits that are found in most humans. Many a human will be found on the edge of the unknown parts of the world exploring deep caverns or charting the unknown seas.They cling tight to the railings of ships weathering storms in order to forge new alliances or capitalize on new opportunities to trade. They forge paths into the unknown Lost Wilds not knowing if they will ever be able to find their way home. They forge new alliances with strange and unknown cultures while clinging tight to their traditions and beliefs. The individual quirks and flaws of a human are largely based upon experience; however, culture also determines a large part of that human's personality, mannerisms, and inflections. One should not mistake variety for open mindedness: Humans can be xenophobic, possessive, greedy, and even totalitarian.
Religion
The overwhelming majority of humans pray to the gods and goddesses of the Anatolian pantheon. Their reverence for the divine has shaped many an event throughout their history. Though there are some that say that these gods have long since fled the world, most know that their whispers are heard by those who listen and their presence can be felt by any that pray.
Physiology
Humans are humanoid beings that walk upright on two legs. Their skin is covered in fine hair with concentrations of thick hair atop their heads. Human skin tones can range from light peaches to the darkest of blacks. Human eye color comes in blue, black, brown, and green as well as variations and mixtures of these four. Though shorter than the beast races found in Shahara, humans are of average height when compared to all other races. Fully grown humans can range from 4' all the way up to 7', with female humans typically being shorter than the males. Humans have a good bit of sexual dimorphism. Males tend to be stockier and heavier than women. Women do not grow facial hair, where as men can grow fairly impressive beards. Women support slender frames and breast whereas men are flat chested with typically more robust shoulders and arms.
Culture
Human culture is just as varied as their physiology. There are many sects, tribes, alliances, and countries of humans that adhere to completely different cultures from the others. Though for the most part, humans organize into large, governing bodies in which to better preserve peace, culture, and their ways of life. Humans dream of peace and adventure, though one man's peace may be another man's tyranny; one man's adventure may be another's downfall. Social Structure

Human social structure is extremely complex in that there is no one solitary social structure among humans. In Anatole, for instance, there are 6 regions that all have distinctly different social structures. All of these currently ruled or occupied by humans. Generally, human social structure exists based upon hierarchies that concentrate power and wealth unto very few individuals.

Facial characteristics

Male humans typically have "stronger" or more pronounced facial features such as noses and chins where as female humans tend to have more rounded faces with less pronounced features.

Naming Traditions

Human naming conventions rely heavily not upon the human species, but rather unique cultural climates within the species itself. One common motif is that a human is given two to three names at birth, the last of these names is called the surname and is traditionally handed down from the father of the child.

Average Technological Level

Humanity's current level of technology would look similar to the technology achieved in Europe and North America in the mid to late 1700's. Printing presses are common in cites whose streets are lit by gas lanterns. Medicine has achieved miraculous discoveries about the human body, disease, and other biological factors. In Eindurand, great warehouses full of looms pump out great swaths of cotton cloths ready to sell on the market.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Many refer to the Trade language as the language of humans. Realistically, it was the language used most often by those Traveling throughout the continent. While many languages and dialects are spoken by different humans, the common tongue, or trade language, is often a second language.

History

Humanity's history is long, but heavily obscured through both revision and loss. It is thought that the majority of humans that live on Anatole today are descendants of humans that came to the continent from another land. We do know, from archaeological evidence, that humanity has always existed, even in a limited scope, upon the Anatolian continent. The Terran and Elf races viewed humanity as a slave race. The frailty and low number of humans on Anatole made Humanity an easy target for raids, conquest, and slavery for these early humans would have been easily overwhelmed by the Terran's brute size and strength, or the Elven numbers. Humanity thrived upon Anatole, despite their early setbacks. Once the Terran and Elves where no longer able to contain and control the land like they once did, Humanity was free to grow and sustain their numbers. Since those early ages, humanity has built kingdoms, empires, and great nations that have developed their own unique cultures and beliefs.
