The Dragonborn and Dragorin

Born with draconic power and a roar that booms, echoing like the beats of mighty wings, the Dragonborn have earned the respect of others both dragon and not. Like the dragons they resemble, the strength of the Dragonborn can evoke fear and wonder in other races. Only a fool underestimates the strength of a Dragon and those truly born with their likeness. Like most of the other races, the Dragonborn began as a group of humans devoted to gods. This case being the dragon gods Roidra and the twins Humbata and Itatma. After the ritual transformation, they bred as a true race, eventually becaming the Metallic, Chromatic, and Gem Dragonborn, and self named Dragorin.   As with other Kingly races, Most Dragonborn hail from their King's realms, even if their duties give need to travel. The Metallic, Chromatic, and some Gem Dragonborn hail from Platicalex under Dragon King Humbata, while those from the Itatman Absolute call themselves Dragorin. Other nations and settlements of Dragonborn and Dragorin exist as their own sovereign, or, as a vassal nation to either of the Free Peoples or one of the Kings' empires, often with a Dragon serving as leader.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Dragonborn possess a combination of humanoid and draconic features that create a visually captivating and formidable presence. Scaly skin, distinctive head structure, horns, crests, wings (if present) and tail (if present), all combine into their unique and imposing appearances. They have a bipedal body structure, standing on two legs with a tall and muscular build, with broad shoulders and a strong frame. Their bodies are typically larger and more robust than the average human.   One of the defining characteristics of dragonborn is their scaly skin, which covers most of their body. These scales provide a natural armor-like protection, although they are not as tough as true dragon scales. The scales can vary in color and texture, ranging from metallic hues such as gold, silver, and bronze to more vibrant colors like red, blue, green, and black, to the color of gemstones such as obsidian and labradorite. The scale patterns can also differ, with some dragonborn having uniform scales, while others may have patterns or variations along their body.   Dragonborn have an elongated head with obviously draconic features. Like dragons, their heads are characterized by a prominent snout or muzzle with a mouth full of sharp teeth, and a long, slender tongue, often with forked tips. Their jaw structure is powerful, allowing for a bite stronger that the average humans'. The eyes of some dragonborn are reptilian with vertical slits, while others may have more humanoid-shaped eyes with round pupils in appearance, regardless, their eyes come in as many colors as their scales. Perhaps the most notable feature of a dragonborn's head is the presence of horns and crests. These bony structures can vary in size, shape, and placement, depending on the individual and their ethnic lineage. The horns may be curved, pointed, or ridged, and they can extend from the forehead, temples, or along the brow ridges. Additionally, some dragonborn may have elaborate crests or fin-like structures on their heads, enhancing their draconic appearance.   Lke most humanoids, Dragonborn have two arms and two legs and a head. Each arm ends in hands with retractable claws and dexterous fingers capable of fine manipulation. Both their arms and legs are strong and muscular, granting dragonborn strength, agility, and speed. Their feet have clawed toes, allowing for a firm grip on various surfaces.   Unlike most humanoids, some dragonborn possess a pair of dragon-like wings extending from their back. These wings are membranous and supported by a skeletal structure. Wing size and shape can vary, reflecting the diversity of dragonborn lineages. The wings can provide them the ability to glide or fly, depending on their size and strength. Some dragonborn have, or also have a long, muscular tail. If they have one, the tail extends from the base of the spine and is covered in scales, matching the rest of the body, additionally, it aids in balance and provides additional agility and maneuverability. The length of the tail can vary between individuals, but it is generally long enough to reach the ground when standing upright.   Perhaps the most iconic trait of dragonborn is their ability to unleash a powerful breath weapon. Similar to dragons, dragonborn can harness their natural energy and release it in the form of a breath attack. The type of breath weapon is determined by their draconic heritage and can include fire, frost, acid, lightning, or other forces both elemental and not. The breath weapon is unleashed from the mouth and can be used for offensive or defensive purposes.

Biological Traits

Dragonborn have a humanoid body structure with distinct draconic traits. These include scales that cover portions of their skin, elongated claws, and some are born with a pair of wings, a tail, or both. One of the most recognizable features of Dragonborn is their dragon-like head. They have a snout, a mouth full of sharp teeth, and often sport horns on their heads reminiscent of those found on dragons.   All Dragonborn have scales covering portions their bodies, and the color of these scales is associated with the type of dragon from which they are descended. For example, red or gold scales indicate a connection to a red or gold dragon, respectively. Like their scales, the color of their eyes can vary widely, and they always match. Dragonborn have eyes with slit pupils, like those of a dragon.    One of the most iconic features of Dragonborn is their ability to breathe destructive energy. The type of energy is determined by their draconic ancestry, such as fire, cold, acid, lightning, or poison. This ability is often referred to as a breath weapon, and it becomes more potent as the Dragonborn grows in power.   Many Dragonborn are born with wings, a tail, or both, adding to their overall draconic appearance. The tail can be prehensile and is often used for balance or very simple manipulation.   Like Humans, they have hands with four fingers and a thumb, unlike humans, these end in sharp retractable claws. Similarly, their feet have five toes with sharp talons.   Dragonborn are generally taller and more powerfully built than humans. Their physical stature varies and can be affected by their draconic heritage.   They also tend to have a longer lifespan than humans. They can live for several centuries, with variations based on their specific dragon ancestry.   The traits of a Dragonborn are influenced by the type of dragon to which they are related. For example, a Dragonborn descended from a red dragon would have scales some shade of red, a breath weapon of fire, resistance to fire, and a temperament associated with red dragons.

Genetics and Reproduction

Like the other Non-Human races, the genetics and reproduction of the Dragonborn are similar to that of humans, there and undeniable differences.   When the Dragon Gods made the Dragonborn, they made them reflect the wyrm they most resembled. Their genetics are influenced by this "draconic heritage/lineage", which determines their physical features, abilities, and sometimes even their personality traits. Different draconic lineages may result in dragonborn with varying appearances, such as different scale colors, horn shapes, or elemental affinities.   Dragonborn and Dragorin reproduce through sexual reproduction, similar to humans and other humanoid creatures, andhave reproductive organs that facilitate fertilization and the development of offspring. They will marry for love, or engage in relationships for mating purposes. When a couple successfully reproduces, the result is usually the birth of an offspring. The offspring, sometimes referred to as wyrmlings or hatchings, are born in leathery eggs, reminiscent of their draconic lineage. These eggs are incubated for several months until they hatch, revealing the newborn inside.   Dragonborn and Dragorin eggs require a specific environment for incubation, often needing the presence of elemental forces corresponding to their lineage. This ensures the proper development of the offspring within the egg. The incubation period can vary, and it is influenced by factors such as environmental conditions and the lineage of the parents.   Parents typically exhibit higher degrees of parental care and involvement in raising their offspring. They protect the eggs during incubation, providing warmth and security. After hatching, dragonborn parents continue to provide nurturing, guidance, and education to their young, passing on their cultural traditions, knowledge, and skills.   As a race made by the Kings, dragonborn and Dragorin are capable of interbreeding with other Kingly race. The appearance of the hybrid offsping depends on that of the father.

Growth Rate & Stages

Dragonborn and Dragorin, like many creatures, experience different stages of growth as they develop from infancy to adulthood. Here is a description of their growth rates and stages:   Hatchling: 0 to 1 year: Dragonborn are born as eggs, which are incubated until they hatch. Once hatched, dragonborn enter the hatchling stage. Hatchlings are small and vulnerable, requiring care and protection from their parents or caretakers. They have limited mobility and physical abilities, and their scales may be softer or less developed compared to older dragonborn.   Juvenile: 1-4 years: As hatchlings grow, they transition into the juvenile stage. Juvenile dragonborn experience rapid growth and development. They become more active, curious, and adventurous, exploring their surroundings and learning about the world. Their physical abilities, such as strength, agility, and breath weapon control, improve over time. Juvenile dragonborn may still rely on their parents or mentors for guidance and education.   Adolescent 5-20 Years: During the adolescent stage, dragonborn continue to grow and mature. They reach a point where they start to resemble their adult forms more closely. Adolescent dragonborn become more independent and self-reliant, as they develop their own skills, knowledge, and identities. They may undergo physical changes, such as the further development of their scales, horns, and other distinguishing features.   Adult: 21+ The adult stage is the final stage of dragonborn growth. At this point, dragonborn have reached their full physical and mental maturity. They possess their complete range of abilities, including their breath weapon and any other inherent traits associated with their draconic lineage. Adult dragonborn are typically at the peak of their physical strength and may take on leadership roles within their communities.

Ecology and Habitats

Most Dragonborn and Dragorin live within the bounds of Platicalex or the Itatman Absolute, though the following applies to those both within and without.   Dragonborn and Dragorin outside of Platicalex and Itatman Absolute are often associated with environments that reflect their draconic heritage. These habitats typically include rugged terrains such as mountains, volcanic regions, deserts, or dense forests. They may have an affinity for areas with abundant sources of elemental energy or proximity to powerful ley lines, which resonate with their draconic nature. Those of Platicalex will instead change their personal spaces to match their preferences.   Dragonborn and Dragorin outside of the two empires are known to form societies and communities, often establishing settlements in their preferred habitats. These settlements may range from small tribes or clans to large cities or fortresses. The locations of these settlements can be influenced by various factors, such as access to resources, defensibility, cultural significance, and the nearby residence of Dragons.   As draconic entities, the Dragonborn and Dragorin have a connection to elemental energies, which may shape their ecological interactions. Some lineages have an affinity for specific elemental forces, such as fire, ice, lightning, or earth. As a result, their habitats may exhibit unique environmental features or phenomena associated with these elements, such as geothermal activity, magically charged landscapes, or thriving flora and fauna adapted to these conditions.   With their physical strength and draconic abilities, the Dragonborn and Dragorin can have a notable impact on their ecosystems. For example, they may shape their habitats by clearing pathways, creating settlements with underground lairs, or even shaping the land itself to suit their needs. Additionally, their presence and activities may influence the behavior and distribution of other creatures within the ecosystem.   Communities outside of the empires of the dragon Kings often have cultural practices and rituals that are intertwined with their habitats and ecological surroundings. They may revere certain natural features, such as sacred caves, ancient trees, or powerful ley line intersections, and may also engage in rituals or ceremonies to maintain a harmonious relationship with the land and the creatures that inhabit it.   Like their dragon cousins, they can exhibit adaptability to a range of environments. While they may have preferred habitats, they are capable of surviving and thriving in various ecosystems, including harsh and inhospitable conditions. This adaptability allows them to colonize diverse regions and interact with a wide array of flora and fauna.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The dietary needs and habits of thses draconic humanoids are very similar to humans   While the Dragonborn and Dragorin are omnivorous creatures, they prefer primarily feeding on meat. Their sharp teeth and strong jaws are well-suited for tearing and consuming flesh. Veggies are most often seen as a garnish and fruits a tasty sweet treat while breads are for sopping up soup or eating heaty stews.   As juveniles and adults, they are naturally capable hunters. They may employ a variety of hunting techniques, such as stalking, ambushing, or chasing down their prey. Their physical prowess, agility, and draconic abilities provide them with an advantage in capturing and subduing their chosen targets.   Some Dragonborn and Dragorin have elemental affinities that influence their dietary preferences and habits. For example, a fire-aligned dragonborn might consume charred or cooked meat, while an ice-aligned dragonborn might prefer prey that has been frozen. Because of thise, in groups, food is often made purposely bland, with the individuals adding their own seasonings to make thier food more suiting to their personal tastes.   The specific dietary habits of dragonborn and Dragorin can also be influenced by their cultural practices and the availability of food sources in their habitats. Communities outside of the empires may have specific traditions or taboos regarding certain types of food or methods of preparation. They may also have specialized knowledge of local flora and fauna, utilizing various ingredients and cooking techniques unique to their culture.

Biological Cycle

The biology cycle of dragonborn and Dragorin is similar to their genetics and reproduction, however, it is far closer to human than dragon.    Birth/Hatching: They begin their lives as eggs, which are incubated until they hatch. The exact duration of the incubation period can vary based on factors such as environmental conditions and the specific draconic lineage of the parents. Once the eggs hatch, Dragonborn enter the world as hatchlings.   Growth and Development: Hatchlings undergo a period of rapid growth and development. They mature physically and mentally, gradually acquiring the physical features and abilities associated with dragonborn and Dragorin. Hatchlings rely on their parents or caretakers for nourishment, protection, and guidance during this stage.   Physical Maturation: As they progress through their juvenile and adolescent stages, they continue to grow and mature physically. Their scales harden and their bodies become stronger and more resilient. Their horns, crests, and other distinguishing features also develop further. This stage is characterized by increased physical prowess and the refinement of their innate abilities.   Maturity: Dragonborn reach their full physical and mental maturity during their adult stage. They have completed their growth and development, and their physical features and abilities have reached their peak potential. Adult dragonborn and Dragorin possess their full range of draconic traits, including their breath weapon, elemental affinities, and any other innate abilities associated with their draconic lineage.   Reproduction: As adults, they are capable of mating and reproducing. Dragonborn engage in courtship rituals and form pair bonds for the purpose of procreation. They lay eggs, which are then incubated until they hatch. The process of reproduction allows the cycle to continue with the birth of new dragonborn hatchlings.

Behaviour

Dragonborn and Dragorin typically have a strong connection to dragonkind, and their behaviors and psychology may be influenced by their draconic heritage, like those related to fire dragon having strong emotions and those related to cold being more stoic and calculating.   They often follow a strong code of honor and often a sense of duty. Their behaviors are often guided by principles of loyalty, integrity, and a commitment to their personal and/or nation's honor.   Despite a shared ancestry, Dragonborn and Dragorin are individuals with their own personalities and motivations. Like humans, they may often have unique quirks, preferences, and personal goals that shape their behavior.   Like Dragons, the Dragonborn and Dragorin have a natural inclination towards ambition and power. Their draconic heritage often instills a desire for greatness, and they may strive for positions of leadership or influence.   They also have varying attitudes toward other races. Some may be proud and somewhat aloof, reflecting a sense of superiority, while others might actively seek cooperation and alliances.   Dragonborn, like dragons, are adaptable and resilient. Their behavior might reflect a capacity to face challenges head-on and overcome adversity with strength and determination.   All possess a breath weapon based on their draconic heritage. This ability often influences their combat style and decision-making, as they have a potent natural weapon at their disposal.   While individuals can vary widely, they often lean towards lawful alignments due to their strong sense of honor and duty. However, there can be exceptions, and Dragonborn of any alignment that can be found.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Dragonborn and Dragorin have a dragon-like head, featuring a snout or muzzle with slitted nostrils. The structure of their face is reminiscent of a dragon's, with a prominent nose and distinct jawline. Inside the maws are dozens of sharp teeth that, depending on draconic lineage, can be visible even when their mouths are closed, contributing to their intimidating appearance. Scales cover their faces, giving them a reptilian appearance, color of these scales depends on their draconic lineage. Their eyes have slit pupils, similar to those of dragons, and their eye color, like scale color, depends on their draconic heritage and the eyes are often a very memorable feature to other races. Many have horns on their heads, adding to their draconic appearance, or making them look fiedish to the ignorant. The shape and size of these horns, like their eyes and scales, depends on their draconic lineage.   Like other humanoid races, the Dragonborn are capable of a wide range of facial expressions. However, their more dragon-like tendencies may influence the way expressions are conveyed, giving them a unique demeanor. Depending on draconic heritage, some dragonborn even sport beards and mustaches. This facial hair comes in the form of face and chin tendril like growths. Some do use magic or indergo procedures to grow actual hair instead.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Most Dragonborn and Dragorin hail from one of the two Kingly empires, Platicalex or Itatman Absolute. As a race they are incredibly versatile and can adapt to various environments, so they may be found in a wide range of geographic locations inside and outside of the empires. They be found in deserts, mountains, forests, or other cities and nations.   Some Dragonborn might live in nomadic tribes that roam across different planetary or stellar regions. These tribes could have unique traditions, and their presence might be tied to the movements of dragons or other significant events. Others integrated into other humanoid societies. They might live in human or elf cities, contributing their skills and abilities to those communities. This integration can lead to a diverse distribution across various regions.   Individuals or groups might be considered outsiders or exiles, living on the fringes of society. This could result in scattered populations across different terrains and climates.

Average Intelligence

On average, the Dragornborn and Dragorin are as intelligent as humans. Like humans, they can fall on either side of the sprectrum of intelligence.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Dragonborn and Dragorin possess sensory capabilities that are influenced by their draconic heritage. While they share some similarities with humans in terms of perception, they also have certain extrasensory abilities that set them apart. It's important to note that their exact sensory and extrasensory capabilities may vary between individuals, depending on their draconic lineage and personal traits. Additionally, these abilities may develop and strengthen with experience and training, allowing them to further harness their unique perceptual and extrasensory gifts.   They have keen eyesight that rivals that of humans. Their reptilian eyes are adapted to various lighting conditions, allowing them to see well in low light or darkness. An excellent depth perception allows them to detect subtle movements, making them skilled at tracking prey or enemies. Additionally, some dragonborn may have enhanced color perception, perceiving a broader range of hues compared to humans. Dragonborn and Dragorin have the ability to see in the dark, allowing them to navigate and perceive their surroundings even in complete darkness. Since their eyes can adjust to low-light environments, they can spot details and movements that would be imperceptible to mortal humans without the aid of additional light sources.   Scales of the Dragonborn and Dragorin provide more than just protection, they also serve as sensory receptors, allowing them to sense their environment in unique ways. The scales are sensitive to touch, temperature, and vibrations, giving them an enhanced awareness of their surroundings. This heightened sensitivity can provide them with an advantage in detecting subtle changes or threats.   Dragonborn and Dragorin possess acute hearing abilities, surpassing those of humans. Their ears can pick up a wider range of frequencies and detect sounds from greater distances. This heightened hearing allows them to perceive subtle nuances in sound, such as the rustling of leaves or the faintest whispers, enabling them to locate hidden creatures or eavesdrop on conversations.   The Dragonborn and Dragorin have the ability to detect and analyze scents in the air using their highly sensitive olfactory system. This sense of smell is more developed than that of humans and can be used to track prey, identify individuals by their unique scent, or detect hidden dangers such as toxic substances or hidden enemies.   A unique extrasensory ability of the dragonborn and Dragorin is known as Draconic Resonance. This ability allows them to sense the presence of other dragons or beings with draconic essence within their vicinity. It manifests as an intuitive feeling or an empathic connection, enabling dragonborn to identify individuals of draconic heritage or detect the residual traces of dragon magic or power.   Some Dragonborn and Dragorin may exhibit an affinity or sensitivity to specific elements. For example, one with a fire dragon lineage may have an increased sensitivity to heat, flames, or fire-based magic. This sensitivity can manifest as an enhanced perception or an intuitive understanding of the element in question.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

Dragonborn and Dragorin can form symbiotic relationships with other draconic creatures faster than other humanoids.    They can suffer from the same natural parasites as other humanoids, and can also become infested by draconic parasites.
