Ueta Ha (Starved Blade)

The Ueta Ha is a blade held on display in the training fields inside Lyashino Yōsai. It is held in reverence by the samurai there, and is commonly used as an alter to pray to the kami of the Ueta Senshi (starved warrior), which is held as the guardian kami of the fortress.   Shortly after the founding of Lyashino Yōsai, when it was merely a permanent camp of shinto samurai and priests, the watchmen spotted a person walking out of the Retribution Wastes. A call went out, and a party of samurai gathered to defend against whatever yōkai this person represented. As the person slowly approach, the samurai discerned that the wanderer was a woman, armored as a fellow samurai, and a katakana held limply in their hands. The woman appeared severely malnourished, and collapsed as soon as she reached the samurai.   None at the fortress recognized her, as she had not come from any caravan, but to honor a fellow warrior, they brought her to the medical tent for healing. However, that night, while the fortress slept and the watchmen were looking outward for the dangerous of the wastes, she vanished. The healers awoke to find her gone, with no sign of her presence but her katana resting on the ground of the training fields, her armor folded neatly beside it.   That day, the priests declared her as a guardian kami, an omen of their efforts, and formalized her as the kami of the fortress. A shrine was built around her blade, and her armor was eventually displayed at the peak of the fortress.
