The Toothy Chest

In a prime example of Ilkani grandiosity, the Toothy Chest stands out as a point of interest on the outskirts of the market district of Trader's Gate.  The first two stories are a typically Rhûnic structure, squat and geometrically designed with a crenelated roof.  Floating some twenty feet above that is a graceful, slowly rotating circular structure that contains the building's upper three floors.  Standing outside the front doors are a pair of bouncers that politely inquire of all who come in what the are looking for and direct them to the appropriate floor.     The first floor holds the common-room and taphouse, containing a wide variety of low-stakes games of chance and tavern entertainments.  The second floor contains higher stakes table games as well as a decent quality family-style restaurant that has a solid menu of local favorite dishes, as well as a smattering of more approachable Ilkani dishes.   Access to the first two floors are unrestricted.  The upper floors are only accessible via teleportation, which is accommodated for those who cannot do it themselves by way of a token provided at the bar or by the bouncers at the door.  Provision of said tokens is done at the discretion of the individual employee, because the upper floors hold progressively higher stakes gambling and finer decor and dining.  In the absence of other factors, judicious tipping will easily grant access to the third and fourth floors.  The fifth floor is VIP only, requiring a direct invitation from someone with VIP access or the proprietor, the Ilkani Ambassador.  No amount of bribery can get someone to the fifth floor uninvited.     Surrounding the fifth floor is a large balcony with seating that provides outdoor dining and a scenic overlook of the city, with only the Uldovende's Manor standing taller.   The entire block surrounding the Chest contains the support structures for the establishment itself, from kitchens to larders and storehouses as well as bathhouses and rooms for let of various levels of luxury and price.   There are two sublevels which contain the fighting pits, where all forms of physical and martial competition are held (and bet upon).

Purpose / Function

Originally a counting-house for a Rhûn moneychanger, the Toothy Chest was purchased outright from the city by House Sarlar, and is owned by the Great House.  Entertainments and diversions of all types can be found here, from games of chance to shows and blood sports.  The structure also serves as the Ilkani Embassy to the Rhûn Freeholds, and is the ambassadorial residence.

Architecture

Crenellations on the roof of the static structure line up with inverted crenellations on the underside of the floating portion.
