Fleeryaygur "Shimmer-Stalker"
The fleeryaygur (translated "Shimmer-stalker") is a large hunting feline native to the Yrch Tribelands. Possessing razor sharp fangs and claws, and weighing 700 lbs on average, it is a fearsome killer. Its most deadly trait however, is the fact that its hide causes the light around it to be distorted such that it is extremely difficult to see, blending into its surroundings in any amount of light brighter than starlight. In starlight its hide shimmers, reflecting the flickering stars, hence the creature's name to the Yrch.
A solitary ambush predator possessed of keen senses of smell and hearing, the fleeryaygur prefers to stalk its prey rather than give chase, and in the wild maintains a massive range. Fleeryaygur are extremely territorial, adults will only tolerate other adults' presence in their range during mating season. Breeding results in 1 to 2 cubs, which takes 3 years to mature to independence. Females with cubs extend their ranges to accommodate their greater need for prey. In lean hunting seasons, the fleeryaygur resorts to stalking as opposed to ambush predation.
To hunt fleeryaygur takes skill, luck, and technique. The Yrch use hooked javelins to mark the beast to allow hunters to overcome its natural stealth abilities, leaving them to deal with a massive, wounded killing machine.
Fleeryaygur are obligate carnivores, but since their preferred prey are the large grazing herbivores of the Tribelands, they typically only hunt once every 30 days or so. To date, none have ever been tamed, although some number have been captured for study by the Ilkani. The Fleeryaygur, known to the Ilkani as the Tinuferig, is the symbol of House Keythra.
The Fleeryaygur is long-furred and double coated with tufted ears. Its fur is fuligin in hue with subtle striping that is visible to those with darkvision. When the creature is dead it loses its camouflage, however alchemical treatment of its hide allows it to recover some of its previous capabilities. As such it is extremely prized both as a trophy and for practical use by hunters and assassins.
