Anielle Faye (a.k.a. Annie)
Anielle is the class clown. She's always telling jokes or doing good-natured pranks. A seemingly endless spring of laughs and nonchalance.
Her most obviously defining feature is her missing right arm, just below the shoulder. This doesn't seem to bother her one bit, however, and she's quite deft with her left hand, as well as using her teeth, neck, even legs to substitute for a second appendage.
Under the surface, however, Anielle is a walking contradiction. Her jovial attitude isn't a lie, per se, but it is exaggerated, and almost always used as a facade to hide her inner turmoil. That being that she doesn't want people to look down on her and pity her, and she doesn't want to feel like a parasite, like she's always under someone else's care and she's getting things she hasn't earned. She uses humor to attract attention, and then bemoans the kind of attention she receives.
She also yearns to be taken seriously, to be looked at as a young woman the same way that boys look at other girls. And more specifically, she wants Finn to look at her that way, to notice her the way she's noticed him. Her eagerness for such contact and companionship is so great, however, that she would likely not say 'no' to anyone confessing feelings for her.

Personal history
Anielle lost her right arm when she was attacked by wolves as a little girl. Thankfully, there was a Vista healer passing through the town at the time, and he managed to save her life.
She grew up with very mixed feelings about magic. She knew she should be thankful for her life, but being a cripple in a small, struggling village was very difficult for her. And more importantly, it was very difficult for her mother, who had lost her husband to a hunting accident a few years prior. Anielle often felt like it would have been better if she had just died as well, then her mother wouldn't have to work herself to the bone every day. She had her very young, so she wasn't too old to re-marry and have another go at having a family.
As she grew, Anielle figured out one thing she could do that made her feel less worthless, less of a burden - humor. She would make jokes, play innocent pranks, make a fool of herself, all so she could see her mother smile. And it seemed to work. For a while, the two seemed happy, and this new role gradually felt natural to Anielle.
There was no school in Anielle's village, it was too small and too remote for that, so eventually she had to start learning a craft. But what was a small, frail, one-armed little girl supposed to do that would be of help to her community? She tried many things - weaving, cooking, sewing, but she always felt her handicap was too great to truly be good at any of it, despite all the reassurances from her would-be mentors. As always, she waved it all off as a joke, playing the incompetent fool, just so she didn't have to admit to herself or anyone what the real reason for her perceived failure was.
She was found by Percival Rowen during his travels. He saw through her defense mechanism and recommended her to Arlan Howlis, who sent an offer to join the Academy of Transcendental Studies. Anielle accepted immediately. This was finally an opportunity for her to stop being a burden to her mother, and something where her handicap might not hold her back from too much.

Her disability is as much mental as it is physical. She will often not even attempt doing things she thinks the disability will stop her from being good at.
