"You have a hearing in the morning, Princeps." A robed figure stood in the dimly lit doorway, a frown on his face. "Perhaps you should get some rest tonight."
"I'm busy, First Minister." Constantine took another sword down from its wall mount and began to rub it down with oil. "Allow me my momentary indulgences."
The First Minister sighed. "You know you have armorers working under your command. Just have them do this."
"No." The Princeps of Etoile looked up. "These are my blades and this is my duty."
"Forgive me for saying this, Princeps, but that sounds like an awful line from a bad theatre play." The man shook his head. "And in all seriousness, when will be the next time you swing a sword in anger? You have your battleguards. They're better at it than you."
Constantine shook his head. "If I cannot fight myself, how could I ask others to fight for me?" "Another bad line read, Princeps." The Minister put a hand on his forehead.

Personal history
Constantine was born the third son of his father and was considered generally unpromising in relation to them, so he was left to his own devices for the most part, receiving a normal noble education and given a sinecure in the Capital. This allowed him to indulge his hobbies of weaponsmithing and the collection of music-boxes, which nobody begrudged him until the accidental death of his father and two brothers in an incident of little knowledge to the public.
His coronation as Princeps seemed inauspicious given the circumstances, but nobody else was willing to take the mantle, and his tenure as Princeps has generally been prosperous and uneventful. It's escaped nobody's notice that Constantine seems to not particularly care for the role, but the Principality has done a fairly good job governing itself in the absence of decisive leadership.
