Rainshadow

"The rain hates what it can't destroy."     -Tornin di Jurricort, Last Lord Mayor of Rainshadow
To the southwest of The Slate Fields and to the north of The Greymarsh lies the sprawling city of Rainshadow. It is the youngest of the three major city-states that rule over the continent of Ennostwell having been founded from a small town on the Campion River that served as a military supply depot during the Rennon Wars of Consolidation. It grew quickly and drew in many of the southern factions once Voss the Destroyer had completed his campaigns of c.y. 7960.* The mines and quarries of the Slate Fields brought in building materials and the vast southern plains supported the farms needed for the city to thrive. Within 50 years it became the power of the south.   The districts within the city began with very strict limitations for both residential and commercial use. Unlike the other major city-states it has a planned layout which has been carefully developed over the centuries as a source of pride among the residents. That kind of rigid thinking permeates everything that happens within the city and has given rise to the stereotype of the 'inflexible southerner' amongst the Rennon. It is of course no surprise that Rainshadow is the birthplace of The Chain.   Mostly due to its military origins, the political structure is very hierarchical. Although different forms have come and gone over the centuries they all have a basic similarity. Currently, all executive and legislative power resides with the Lord Commander. He has an executive staff that advise him and then implement his directions. The different districts have Guard Captains that carry out the Lord Commander's policies and act as the local judiciary. Neighborhoods have Guard Lieutenants who typically act as enforcers.     *See The Rennon Consolidation Wars, Chom Biitulaay, Strakepress, c.y. 8731
