Lantern's Fall

"If Creation is perfect there are many that would claim (in private, of course) that it is so because The Lantern willed it so.  Heresy, obviously, but understandable."   -Sorel the Elder, Histories, vol 1, pg 42
At the northern tip of Lasskyrolia sits a long abandoned tower that was dedicated to the religion of Tol Ilass, the organized worship of The Lantern . Tol Ilass was the main religion of the ancient Lasskyr people before they discovered the rest of Creation and formed The Order of the Eight . As with any great movement in any society, there was violence associated with that.   Built from light grey granite carved out of nearby quarries, Lantern's Fall sits atop a large solitary hill. Ruins of other buildings can be found at the foot of the hill and a thriving community once surrounded the area. It is presumed to have gotten its name because the Lantern is consistently at it's lowest point in the sky across the entire continent, due to the northmost location.  However, Tol Ilass was not a religion known for its written works and the details of its beliefs died out with the last of its practitioners.   In it's day it was occupied by a monastic group that lived a simple agricultural life.  They held various rituals on its parapets to honor the Lantern which would consist of dances and chantings and the burning of proper woods and herbs.* Large burn pits with paving stone courtyards around them have been unearthed by historians. These ceremonial areas are evenly spaced where the tip of the tower's shadow would appear at sunrise, noon, and sunset.   Lantern's Fall was abandoned slowly over a period of about one hundred years as the belief in Tol Ilass dwindled. The Order of the Eight quickly rose to dominate the old religions of Creation and absorb them into its fold. The Revolt of Tol Ilass happened as a last convulsion of the fading belief. The rebellion was quickly put down when it rose up in the city of Ierran. Not long after that the remaining buildings around Lantern's Fall were raided and sacked. It is said that the last Zealot of The Lantern was cornered on top of Lantern's Fall and thrown to his death at sunset, thus marking the end to Tol Ilass. However, to this day in the northern reaches of Lasskyrolia one can occasionally find a faded sun symbol on a barnhouse door suggesting that old beliefs run deep in Lasskyr blood.     *There is absolutely no evidence to support rumors that people were ever burned alive in honor of The Lantern.
