The First Bloody Prophet Character in Crafting New Lives | World Anvil

The First Bloody Prophet

Blood is the strongest and most succinct carrier of knowledge of a life. One can see the body and assume what governs it, but only blood knows the inner workings of a heart, the structure of a mind, the strength of the soul.
— The First Bloody Prophet
A towering person of muscle and mass that moves as fluid as lava: slowly, surely, steadily, with power controlled but not hidden. Crisp white lines connect like veins from their hands to their throat, where the lines condense to the sides of their mouth. Their eyes are covered by a blindfold, tied underneath long auburn hair braided with cords of crimson vines.   They are older than they appear, dating back nearly as far as the Blood God himself. The Bloody Prophet was the first to realize the importance of lifeblood, seeing its ability to give information on all that a life has been through. They are not inherently seers of the future, but protectors of the past, able to reach for information on a soul and infer what is in store, what they must focus on, what they need to learn in order to reach the full potential they foster.   This can lead to sometimes brutal readings, not just by tasting offered blood but the depths of their insight. While most prophets only do readings if asked, some will do it as an act of protection: if they taste blood, they will know any strengths but also any weaknesses, and they are not above exploiting them to protect themselves.   This ancient figure in the Blood God's following led to a following dedicated to the study of blood, life, and death. The first seer is rumored to still be alive and roaming the nether, always searching for deep potential and fostering it. This figure leads others to act in their image and ideals, not all intentionally impersonating them but some simply striving to reach that level of assuredness of self and service.

First off, I love the description of their appearance. It sounds like they would not only be very cool looking but also rather intimidating. Also crimson fungus in the hair? Very cool. I had a little confusion where it starts talking about their abilities because it drifts to reading more like it is about other Bloody Prophets rather than the First. However, despite that mild moment of confusion, their abilities sound both fascinating and terrifying! Blood having extreme levels of power is always a fun concept in media to me and seeing all the different ways that people explore it is always great.

with stoutest wrists and loudest boasts,
he thrusts his fists against the posts
and still insists he sees the ghosts.

Thank you so much for your comment!! I'm glad their coolness and intimidating aura got through to you! And yeah, I definitely struggled with switching between a singular person and a group of people in this article, but hope to sort it out soon.   Regarding the power of blood, I'm hoping to make a short story surrounding what their readings can look like; both a consensual reading and one done out of defense and weaponized. It's somewhere between knowing the mechanic side of strengths and weaknesses, statistics and numbers; but also the character's virtues and flaws, any past decisions that stuck with them. The First Blood Prophet is much more inclined to utilize the latter if they feel defense is needed. A fun mix that, when wielded correctly, can prod people into realizing things they've long denied.   Regardless, thank you so much for your comment Terion, it means more than you know. <3

There's so much worth loving in this world. You are one of those things.

You are most welcome! And I understand, I've had the issue before with trying to sort out the tenses between one and many. How to work around it'll come eventually.   Oooh, a short story around readings will be cool. Give a sort of in-person look at how they work rather than just explaining how they work. Once again, their abilities sound fascinating and terrifying.   Again, you are most welcome! <3
