Ocean Monument

Ocean monuments are large underwater structures created by Foolish  during his decades of Sunken Spirits that he spent hiding away from the world.

The Structure

The monuments were constructed in the deepest parts of the ocean, in pressure so harsh few can withstand it and a environment so dark few can see without a night vision potion. They could have only been constructed by the Fool Creator, as any manmade structures attempting the same feat meet an untimely demise from the environment or the creatures in it.   The monuments themselves are massive structures, composed of a central building with two wings to either side. Besides the entrance in the front of the central building, there is no way in or out that can be achieved by destroying the structure. The structure itself is always a maze, with links between rooms happening from any axis. Each monument is uniquely confusing, but there is one room guaranteed to be in common with them all: the treasure chamber.

The Treasure Chamber

The treasure chamber to most is enticing because of its gold hidden behind a dark prismarine barrier, but holds an even greater significance. Each block of gold symbolizes a creature Foolish made that now lurks in the depths, and he never leaves an ocean monument without completing eight distinct, and often dangerous, creatures. There are four monuments known to exist, so it is believed that there are 32 creatures of distinct capabilities that exist in the depths of the ocean. It is a highly contended subject among academics and clergy just how many creatures have been found, but the agreed consensus is only nine have been identified.
  1. Guardians
  2. Kraken (giant monstrous squid)
  3. Aspidochleone (sea turtle island)
  4. Leviathan (giant whale or crocodile)
  5. Ceirean (giant sea snake)
  6. Anglerfish
  7. Giant Isopod
  8. Goblin Shark
  9. The Barreleye Fish

Guardians of the Deep

While Foolish was hiding from the world, busying himself with fitful projects and apathetic slumber in turns, he needed to create a creature that could watch the surrounding waters and keep him from being interrupted. These Guardians he created are fearsome creatures that not only deal heavy damage without so much as stirring the water, but inflict the mind with a lethargy that makes it near impossible to physically break into the structure. Each monument holds three Elder Guardians charged with protecting the most valuable spaces in the monument, while their young swarm the grounds with similar intent.
