Scope

The motivation behind building Covenant

I wish to provide a long standing and revisit able homebrew world of my own creation taking inspiration from the Forgotten Realms, and other fictional worlds I enjoy.

The goal of the project

A world that continues to develop and grow over time that any of my player past, present or future can enjoy and leave them with a desire to delve deeper into the world itself and add to it with their own characters and adventures.

Covenant's Unique Selling point

Covenant is a world created and governed over by an ancient pact between Gods and Devils. A Plane of Deals and Hard Decisions where Humankind still seeks to find its true foothold amongst the Elder Races of Elves, Dwarves and Yuan-ti each with familiar and hopefully unique twists on old fantasy tropes.

Theme

Genre

High-Fantasy sometimes delving into Dark Fantasy or a Semi-Steampunk setting, magic is common enough that most know at least one or two folks that are practitioners of various art. Elves, Dwarves, along with other Fantastical Races. Dragons and Demon Lords plot in the shadows as Heroes wielding magic artifacts from ancient forgotten kingdoms combat the forces of evil.

Reader Experience

I want my players to want to explore each location and find more and more with each visit to almost any location they visit, to feel apart of a moving and growing world where their actions can cause ripple effect around them.

Character Agency

I tend to be story heavy and have a set plan but am able to adapt quickly if my players surprise me. The players I seek usually have characters tied deeply to the world and its locations.

Focus

The Building of in depth Races and Their Cultures and how they shape society in this world. Make the Classic Elves and Dwarves feel authentic and lived in by actual peoples.
Humanities struggle to form their own cultural identity, or the rediscovery of such.
The Covenant between Gods and Devils and the constant tugging at the rules of this world and the forces that seek to destroy or protect it.
International Politics.

Drama

Its been over a Hundred years since a Great War between the Bronze-Stone Alliance and the Yuan-ti Empire reshaped the continent of Zelltross. Cities fell and the Kingdom of Man, Dynthem, collapsed and has nearly fell out of memory for many humans of the current times. The War has redrawn the geopolitical relations Two Kingdoms of Dwarves, A Dominion of Elves, and a Empire of Yuan-ti in decline form a dense air of distrust as they vie for the dominate spot on the land they call home.
Of the Eight Gods that signed the Covenant only One remains. Mal'dria the Goddess of Hope though weak from the Clash with a Entity known as The Occidendum Dei. Mal'dria acts as a Oracle guiding those with great potential to a quest to collect a magical deck of cards that offers to grant any wish the wisher desires among other magical blessings from the Gods themselves in hopes of bringing them back to life a little at a time through granting these mortals desires with their "sleeping" powers.
In the Absence of the Gods, the Lords of Hell now have governance over Covenant and seek to maintain a balance and steady supply of souls from the Demi-plane. Unfortunately for them however the power vacuum left by the Gods has attracted interloper beings from beyond this plane of existence. The Yuan-ti Demon Gods Dendar and Sseth have amassed a large following in Alquadima and the Yuan-ti empire, as well as a Prince of The Abyss Graz'zat constantly trying to worm his way in to cause chaos for the Devils.
A Book of Pure Evil from Beyond the Shadowfell, The Negative plane the Shadowfells Shadowfell, Has found its way to the Mortal Realm. It brings with it naught but death and madness. Its intentions incomprehensible, but where it goes shadows and foul beings follow.
Every Millenia the dwarfs of Zelltross begin The Exodus of Marthammor in which The Best and Brightest of Dwarvenkind are gathered into a company thousands strong and must seek out a new land, and new life. To further the Dwarven Race and Bring Honor to their ancestors. The Last Exodus was led by a legendary explorer Dwain The Stone-Wanderer. Through Shrewd negotiations with the Fledgling Kingdom of Dynthem he established a colony that would one day become known as Stonehall and a entire new nation of Dwarven peoples to follow. Now the time draws near again and soon the Appraisal begins where the elders will look upon all Dwarvenkind in search of the 3,000 or so that will be chosen for the exodus.
