Description
General
Dolion River is the crooked captain of the guard under Lord Tyron. He reaps the benefits from Tyron's corruption and many times contributes to it; he follows the law when it conveniences him and disregards it when it doesn't. As such, he is not a well-liked man, but his position and relationship with Tyron make him formidable.
Mannerisms
He's speaks roughly and condescendingly.
Ideals
Might. "'What the law wants'- Ha! I think you'll find that I am the law, and the 'law' is me."
Flaws
Inadaptability "Shut up, kid, and you'll get a lot further."
Leadership (Recharges after a Short or Long Rest). For 1 minute, the captain can utter a special command or warning whenever a nonhostile creature that it can see within 30 feet of it makes an attack roll or a saving throw. The creature can add a d4 to its roll provided it can hear and understand the captain. A creature can benefit from only one Leadership die at a time. This effect ends if the captain is incapacitated.
Actions
Multiattack. The captain makes two melee attacks.
Longsword. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 1d8+2 (1d8 + 2) piercing damage or 1d10+2 (1d10 + 2) slashing damage if used with two hands.
Shortbow. Ranged Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, range 150/600 ft., one target. Hit: 1d6+2 (1d6 + 2) piercing damage.
Relationships
Relationship Reasoning
Dolion is the one who frequently has to handle Aisley's tax fraud cases, to no avail, as the Von Valekeep's books aren't precise enough to actually legally charge her with anything, and she's too popular to try to do anything on the sligh. Ultimately, he feels that she creates more work for him (and you know, Anca forbid he do his damn job). She hates him because he represents everything she despises about the local government: corruption, greed, and hypocrisy, among others. His presence also makes it harder for her to commit tax fraud.
Relationship Reasoning
Dolion finds Sylvester irritating, and Sylvester thinks Dolion is the scum of the Earth, and they're pretty open about their hatred of each other.
Relationship Reasoning
Dolion respects Tyron's power and influence, but little else, while understanding that ass-kissery will get him pretty far with Tyron. Tyron knows that Dolion is somewhat loyal and good at what he does, so he has some respect for him, but feels no need to display much of that respect.
Relationship Reasoning
The James's Arms and Armory is a major supplier for Dolion and his men. Since Ivan does good work for cheap, Dolion likes him. Since Dolion is a frequent customer, Ivan appreciates the extra business, though he has heard the rumors about Dolion, which has tainted his opinion of him slightly.
Relationship Reasoning
Dolion finds Spiffy annoying as hell and is more than a little asinine towards her. She, in turn, is incredibly intimidated by him and hates him overall, although this same fear would keep her from ever saying so aloud.
Relationship Reasoning
Lucia thinks Dolion is despicable, and she's quite vocal about it. Dolion thinks she should shut up and has threatened to shut her up before.
Nicknames & Petnames
Dolion is the one who ironically dubbed him "Calvin".
Relationship Reasoning
Calvin, being a spider, has no way of distinguishing Captain River from any other person (and thus always regards him as a threat). Dolion, on the other hand, finds his men's apprehension of Calvin to be amusing, but is overall indifferent to his presence. He's more annoyed at his men for being "wimps" and refusing to keep the barracks clean than at Calvin for existing.
Relationship Reasoning
Dolion is quite skilled at keeping many people, including Alexander, out of the loop of his activities. As such, Alexander believes him to be an honorable man, worthy of his position. Dolion values Alexander as an asset, but not as a person, and, knowing Alexander's thoughts on crime, will gladly keep him in the dark about his criminal life.
Relationship Reasoning
Dolion finds Chelsea irritating as hell. She doesn't pick fights with him, but also just doesn't like him.
