Nogg

Nogg is a habitable arid world located in the Nog-Rasset System, serving as the homeworld of the Rocs and the capital of the Roccan Commissariat. The planet is the third satellite in its system and possesses a single moon. Its environment is characterized by a hot, dry equatorial region punctuated by small seas, while the poles are more temperate and capable of supporting denser vegetation. With its vast mesas, deep canyons, and life-giving rivers, Nogg has shaped the development of Roccan civilization, influencing both their architecture and societal structure.

Geography

Geography and Climate     Nogg is a fairly typical arid world, with a hot, dry equator that transitions into more temperate and wetter poles. The equatorial regions are dominated by mesas, highlands, and extensive canyon networks through which major rivers run, making them vital sources of fresh water. Early Roccan settlements were frequently built vertically along these canyons, taking advantage of natural rock formations for shelter and stability. Many of Nogg’s modern cities continue to follow this tradition, with vertical cliffside architecture and urban centers situated near fresh water sources.   The polar regions are significantly more hospitable, featuring temperate forests and fertile land capable of supporting large-scale agriculture. These areas are also where many non-Roccan settlers, including Humans and Kiliks, have chosen to establish communities. In contrast, the equatorial region, while largely inhospitable for settlement, plays a key role in energy production due to its vast solar energy farms, which take full advantage of Nogg’s intense sunlight.

History

History and Reconstruction     Nogg’s history is one of resilience and determination, particularly following the Roccan War of Independence in 2189 FS. During the war, the planet suffered extensive devastation when Minamar Specialized Industries (MSI) conducted an orbital bombardment, targeting key settlements and infrastructure to suppress the uprising. Approximately one-third of the planet’s inhabited areas were either severely damaged or completely destroyed, leaving scars on both the planet’s surface and its people.   Despite the devastation, the Rocs' united sense of purpose and national identity facilitated a remarkably rapid post-war recovery. Cities that were once reduced to rubble have since been rebuilt, with many battlefields and bombed-out zones now converted into museums and memorials honoring the War of Independence. The extensive orbital debris field left behind by the conflict was fully cleared by 2210 FS, after two decades of dedicated efforts using specialized construction ships.   Today, while the scars of war remain visible in some places, Nogg has reclaimed its status as a thriving world. The lessons learned from the war have resulted in a highly resilient and self-sufficient society, one that values both its independence and the strength of its communal spirit.

Tourism

Economy and Industry     Nogg’s economy is built on a strong foundation of heavy industry and services, with a particular focus on starship manufacturing. The planet is home to several of the Roccan Commissariat’s major shipyards, which produce both military and civilian vessels for interstellar trade. These shipbuilding centers employ a significant portion of the population and serve as the backbone of the Roccan economy.   Additionally, the polar regions support a significant agricultural industry, providing the planet with essential food production capabilities. Advanced desalination plants situated along coastal settlements further enhance the planet’s ability to sustain its population by supplying fresh water from its small seas. Meanwhile, the equatorial solar farms ensure that Nogg remains energy-independent, taking full advantage of its natural climate conditions to power both industry and urban infrastructure.   Population and Society     The population of Nogg is evenly distributed across the planet, though settlements are largely concentrated near freshwater sources such as rivers and desalination centers. Rocs form the overwhelming majority of the planet’s inhabitants, but there are also sizable Human and Kilik populations, primarily residing in the polar regions where the climate is more favorable. These groups have integrated into Roccan society, contributing to the planet’s growing multicultural identity.   Despite its tumultuous past, Nogg is now a beacon of Roccan resilience, innovation, and unity. As the capital of the Roccan Commissariat, it stands as a testament to the determination of its people, ensuring that the hardships of history are never forgotten but instead serve as the foundation for a stronger and more prosperous future.
