Because Terrans are considered "unfit" for military service, she disguises herself as a Yuraalian in order to fight. She is the protagonist of Cosmic Warrior Hua Mulan.

"Have I ever told you the legend of Hua Mulan?"Mulan was born and raised in the small desert town of Nanjian, on the planet Yuraal, where she lived with her parents, siblings, and grandmother. She was named after her legendary ancestor, Hua Mulan of Terra. When her planet is threatened by the Grid (the now-spacefaring rogue AI network which forced her ancestors to flee Terra), she enlists in the army—under the Yuraalian alias Dohua Yallani, as Terrans are forbidden from service.

Mulan destroys the Grid's mainframe on The Mothership, saving Yuraal (and the surrounding systems) from being destroyed by the Grid. She is hailed as a hero when she returns home.

Her most traumatic experience is when her best friend, Yi Ailemìn, is killed in battle alongside Corporal Shau. Mulan witnesses Ai's death and blames herself for failing to save her.
Morality & Philosophy
Mulan is an idealist who believes she can make a difference. She refuses to sit idly by while her planet is in danger—even if by law she can't serve in the military. She also takes pride in her Terran heritage; the fact that Yuraal is threatened by the same enemy that laid waste to Terra gives her an added personal motivation to join the fight.
"Think about it, Ai. You don't want to go to war. I'm dying to—to save our planet, to avenge my ancestors, my people, to escape my cruddy life here in Nanjian. Where is the downside?"She has a definite sense of honor; although her behavior does not always line up with others' expectations, she would never violate her own principles or intentionally cause undue harm. She believes in doing what's right and, although normally friendly, has little tolerance for less-than-honorable individuals.
