Scope

The motivation behind building Cosmara

This world is for me to create stories and campaigns with my friends over the years. This world is to also help me gain experience in creating thematic and cohesive worlds for the future to come.

The goal of the project

I am creating a world for many dnd campaigns in the future. One of them being my upcoming monster hunter campaign. I want my players to have thematic and fun adventures as they explore characters within in this world.

Cosmara's Unique Selling point

This world is about three main things. The first is how cosmology can change, affect, and intertwine itself with a fantasy world. The second is dragons whom are incredibly magical and powerful creatures and see the ways they influence the world. The final is handling the ever constant threat of ancient eldritch monstrosities that threaten to escape their chains and attack the world.

Theme

Genre

Cosmara is a world of originally low-magic to suddenly becoming a mid-level magical world through the sudden introduction of many new creatures through magical calamaty and events. It takes heavy inspiration from cosmology, eldritch fantasy (Lovecraft, darkest dungeon, etc.). The world is in a kind of High Medieval - Renaissance age.

Reader Experience

Cosmara is a world suddenly beseiged by mystical and magical events and entities. The gods are distant and do not interfere with mortal affairs. Dragons are ever present and in the dark are horrible secrets and monstrosities.

Reader Tone

Cosmara is between a dark and bright tone. The light is constantly in a struggle against the darkness as the two sides constantly fight each other.

Recurring Themes

The Motifs of Cosmara is Cosmology, Dragonic, and Eldritch.

Character Agency

characters will start off only being able to change the town or village they are from. Chraracters will eventually at their peak will be able to change events on a whole continent, but not beyond that.

Focus

Race Relations: Dragons are constantly battling amongst each other and the people of this world for how it should be operated.
Magical Influence: Magic is becoming ever more prominent as the mages guild grows stronger, a new wave of dragons appear from the sky, and the storm of stars leaving deposits of starshards.
Religious Influence: The church of the one sun is ever growing in strength as it spreads it's influence across the continent. The church has replaced it's monarcy, initiated crusades and inqusitions. Many belief the church is becoming too powerful.
Secret Influence: Great and old beings work in the background working their schemes to change the fate of the world
