A Final Annotation
A small stone cottage sits at the edge of a dense woodland, overlooking the wetlands below, its lichen-covered thatched roof blends in with the surrounding foliage. It is an unremarkable yet, charming dwelling, in need of an assortment of small repairs just beyond the view of the charred ruins of the old abbey further up the hill.
Deeper: The fire that claimed the abbey was thought to have started in its kitchens eventually consuming most the structure. What remains is several sections of library that were not destroyed by the collapsed lead roof and the adjoining annex that was once the scriptorium.
A reclusive wanderer, the Cartographer arrived the summer past and took residence in the old groundskeeper's cottage. When she is not tending to the multitude of chores and tasks that compliment the solitary lifestyle, she is found in the cleared backrooms of the scriptorium, surrounded by salvaged tomes and charts.
Explorers and adventurer's have since learned of her current location and will, on occasion seek her to commission one of a variety of specialized maps and charts.
The collapse of the abbey exposed tunnels which ought not be there - tunnels far older than the abbey itself. The Cartographer has explored the shallow surface of these tunnels, and learned that they are not as abandoned as one might believe. A party of capable and experienced dungeoneers would benefit greatly as her escorts below the ruins of the abbey.
