Stonemartyr

Stonemartyr is an old region which sits on the edge of the Ashlands in the Northwest part of the territory. The land there is baked by plains of Forbann’s Peak, the large volcano where Forbann, the Volcanic Dragon, rests. To the east it looms, wreathing sky with smoke. The ground in Stonemartyr is as nice as it can get in the Ashlands, while the ground is warm beneath the feet, it is not the burning, ashy texture which is found closer to the volcano. While the air is thick and tastes slightly of ash, it is not as bad as it could be. Crops grow in the area, but do so stunted and bitter.
Old castles line the land, the stone caked in dust and soot, but stand tall all the same.

History

The region of Stonemartyr holds a great deal of history with families that can trace their lines back to even before Vy’shera I Tandor’thal landed in Corondor. The land still remembers when the Aspects walk the land. When the Tandor’thals first arrived and took Corondor from the Aspects, it was only House Ostavar that feared a war with the gods. For decades they constructed the castle which came to be known as the Osrepus.
No other castle in the realm rivals it, the Osrepus burrows into the ground just as much as it rises above it. Its many towers are vast, more fortress than finery, blackstone fused and streaked as if it was forged by a god. The walls are so thick a man could ride a horse along their tops and even then feel small. The castle walls stretch so far that they mangle around hills creating an unseemly, unorganized sight. The gates are so tall that even a giant could fit under them without bumping its head. The halls stretch and echo, many unmaintained simply because of the size of the castle. The lower levels are filled with vaults, granaries, armories, chapels, and more, all carved deep so that they would still be safe if the gods were to fall upon the lands. However, there's no question that the castle can withstand many things. No one besieges the Osrepus, it would be utterly impossible.
However, caring for the castle is a heavy burden, especially in the Ashlands. Much of the castle, except for the main tower, simply titled “The Tower,” has been unmaintained. That was until the Grand Royal Tourney was to be hosted at Stonemartyr and the castle used to house the thousands of guests coming to celebrate the ten-year conclusion of the war that had brought the realm together, the Long Winter.
