Session 24 - Dates and Disasters
General Summary
The date is quite a disaster. Celeste, in an attempt to make food, severely underestimates the kitchen’s ability as the oven unceremoniously explodes, creating a mess in the kitchen that takes a night to fix. Even then, most of the area is burned or scorched in some way, leaving a mess that she spends the full night trying to fix.
In the meantime, Violet and Calum try to have their date. Violet tries to play a game with Calum, but unfortunately this game has a complete reliance on sleight of hand. Quickly, she loses. The consequence of losing is taking a drink, which she does… and again. Soon, Violet feels herself get drunk, the alcohol is stronger than she expected and she’s quite the lightweight. Calum is wholly unprepared to deal with Violet’s drunkenness and tries to recruit Asha to help.
Violet is lifted onto the bed and inspected by Celeste, only for the group to realize that she’s not breathing. Celeste and Calum begin to panic, trying to resuscitate Violet only for Asha to inform them that Violet does not have to breathe. This warning comes a little late, as Celeste has already given Violet CPR.
When she wakes up, she doesn’t remember much about the date at all and the whole occasion goes down as an embarrassing disarray of horrible moments.
When they wake up, the gnomish chef, Glinterbee, is infuriated and the head of the barracks humbly asks that they stay away from the kitchens next time.
For the rest of the day, the party is introduced to their training regime. Aenyr and Jayme, their respective mentors, give them schedules to cover the basics of what each party member wants to achieve during their time in Drakenmarch.
The session ends when Celeste heads back to her bunk in the barracks only to find a package from Melior Ljonguard. In it are some ripped pages of a journal written by Lady Bumbleford to improve her potions. It doesn’t seem like Bumbleford intended them to be given to Celeste, merely arrogant notes of how someone could improve their work. Additionally, he also sealed a small egg within a test tube. It’s a vespon egg, which, when raised outside of Bumbleford care, could be a trusted companion.
