Session 22 - So Let’s Stop Lying
General Summary
Following the battle the party groups together to chatter about the outcome of the events which have occurred. They briefly speak to Wrenwick Ayr who is kind to her saviors but remains tense around Celeste—for obvious reasons. Calum is able to connect with her after speaking about his own brother. Kindly, Wrenwick offers his brother a place in the Inventor’s League, should he have the desire to go to the Cordillera and extends the invitation to the rest of the party, sans Celeste.
Of course, should Celeste go to the Cordillera there’s always the chance that Wrenwick could demand a trial. Alastor inserts himself and presses Wrenwick on her exclusion of Celeste, to which the young Lady Paramount quickly clams up and excuses herself from the group’s presence.
Soon Prince Carnys and Aenyr Daybreak make their return, the prince covered in a mix of gold and red blood. The prince’s eyes look emotional, a far cry from his usual stoic nature as he storms towards the rest of his family. He stands alongside the queen as well as Lucerys, Aydrea, and Prince Vaelyx of the kingsguard. Aenyr stands back behind them, before eventually settling into the Crownsguard entourage instead. King Rahaevor is likely still cutting his way through the creatures, it is Prince Vaelyx who begins to organize the host.
Aydrea Tandor’thal is sent off with the stragglers from other nations while those of the Crownlands stay together as they are officially under the banners of Lady Paramount Szorvyr Dro’Ungul.
Soon, the party is able to regroup and hold a series of conversations going over the past events of the tournament and group together amidst the turmoil. Calum admits that he nearly left the Ayrs behind out of selfishness, much to the rest of the party’s dismay.
Alastor also takes Violet and Calum aside on the first night, telling them that Celeste had been feeling unappreciated. Alastor told the pair that they were the ones causing Celeste the most stress and should get her a gift. He explained that the pair had made little effort in getting to know Celeste while he knew far too much about them, grilling them on what Celeste’s favorite color was. Violet knew the answer while Calum explained he did know a lot about Celeste, just not color as it had never come up in conversation. Calum then asked Alastor if he knew his favorite color, which Alastor couldn’t answer in return.
The whole conversation left Violet and Calum reasonably confused—they had both individually bought Celeste gifts in the past. Calum had bought Celeste an Ashlands encyclopedia while Violet had made her a poppet. Still, the two agreed to purchase Celeste a gift and keep this conversation a secret, convinced by Alastor’s delusions.
When the three returned, it was obvious something was off to Celeste and Asha who quickly saw past the lies and deduced the truth. They confronted the three, leading to Calum and Violet explaining the situation. Celeste was able to explain her side, that while she had been feeling the weight of responsibility she was also incredibly thankful for the gifts Calum and Violet had given her. In the end, the conversation turned positive as the group finally agreed to keep lying and secrets to a minimum—after all, they had a world to save.
Okay, and the horse was there too—I guess.
Later, Celeste speaks with their new patron, Szorvyr Dro’Ungul who sits in a well-furnished tent rolling a copper coin between her fingers. She asks for any work that the group can ideally pick up seeing as they do not want to be seen as lazy. Quickly, Szorvyr brings Celeste up to speed with the expectations of waking up early and participating in getting the entourage moving. She also points Celeste in the direction of where they can be given work.
Szorvyr compliments Celeste’s leadership of the group given that she is a woman. Being from the Underdark, a matriarchal society, Szorvyr tells Celeste to reign in her boys as it is clear they are dysfunctional compared to the women of her group. Celeste has to hold her tongue, because while she would have said Alastor is her second in command, Szorvyr is also… kind of right.
In a completely non-misandrist way.
In the end, Szorvyr seemingly has taken a liking to Celeste, or at least a passing amusement. She tells Celeste to be more perceptive, finally letting Celeste catch on to the fact that Szorvyr had all the elements needed to cast Detect Thoughts, something she had likely been doing for their entire conversation.
