Grave Wardens
This religious order can be found throughout the northern lands. They are worshippers the God Fellen the Keeper of the Dead. In their most mundane role this sect maintains graveyards belonging to their own sect and to others. They will also provide burial assistance to needy families that cannot afford burial rites. The sect maintains funerary temples and chapels in almost every major city and market town. Their shrines can also be found at some rural graveyards. The sect accepts both male and female members. Their more specialized and less well known mandate is making sure the dead stay dead. They will oppose anyone engaged in necromancy or resurrection with equal vigor believing both acts are offenses against their god. The headquarters of the sect is located above a great complex of catacombs outside the city of Sherifa. This is the seat of the Speaker of the Wardens and the meeting place of the Council of High Wardens. The Council meets once every five years to make important decisions about the sect and its policies. On rare occasions emergency meetings can be called to address some manner of great urgency.
Sect members dress in plain grey robes with hoods and often can be seen patrolling graveyards at night with lanterns in hand. During the day sect members can be observed maintaining graveyards and conducting rites for the dead. Many of the sect’s members are trained as stone masons, carpenters and morticians to help conduct the sect’s mundane functions. The sect’s priests conduct funeral ritual and memorial services. The priests will use their powers against necromancers and resurrectionists. They sect is also enthusiastic about sharing their great knowledge with individuals acting against necromancers and any form of the undead. Mundane members of the sect may leave without prejudice after ten years of service and some individuals join just to learn valuable skills, but the majority of members stay in the sect for the rest of their lives.
