Berstanna

This 1,500 year old city is currently the capital of the Kingdom of Tarrel. It is a large city and a center of trade. It is bisected by the Stanna River, which is a major trade route and the River Berris run along the eastern side of the city before intersecting with the Stanna. The city is the largest in the KIngdom with a population of 30,000. The rich grain lands surrounding the city produce enough of surplus to feed its population.

Demographics

The city is predominately Northron human (70 percent), with another 20 percent being Northron Corgerians. The remainder of the populaitons is a mixture of Danite, Dark Corgerians and Mountaineers.

Government

The city is directly controlled by the King through an appointed governor.

Defences

The city is walled along its landward approaches. The southernmost and northernmost bridges over the Stanna are fortified and can be used to protect again attacks launched from along the river. The western bank of the Berris is also walled to protect from cross river assaults. The well fortified Royal Palace protects the southern approaches to the eastern side of the city.

Infrastructure

The main streets of the city are paved and drained through story sewers, but most of the side streets are muddy with open drains running along them. Water is provided by neighborhood wells and the rivers. The city also features ten public baths. Stone quays can be found along the city's rivebanks providing anchorages for the barges that ply the two rivers. The city has extensive warehouses for good storage and grain.
