Corexus The Jotunhunts

The Jotunhunts

Military action

Unknown

In an unbridled act of savagery and bloodshed in the far distant past, the Dwarves initiate a brutal genocide of the ancient empire of Giants that would culminate in the destruction of most of The Giant Pantheon, the fall of the Giant Empire, and the de-evolution of the Giants into a tribal and barbaric people.

Though the reasons for the war's start are lost to time, what is known is that the Dwarves, and their god Moradin, were the ones who began the Jotunhunts. Seething with hatred for their eternal foes, the Dwarves began hunting the Giants who lived in the frozen wastes of the far north for sport.   First picking off stragglers and small villages, the dwarves soon were joined by the humans...and together, seeking the pelts and bodies of these insanely powerful creatures, set off on a spree of genocide and destruction that saw dozens of villages laid low and entire Giant Races sent into extinction. Hunted for their pelts as much as they were for their nature as "Giants", the Giants of the north were brutalized and slaughtered at the hands of the Dwarves and the Humans, who saw the massive giants as the ultimate tests of a warrior's skill....and the ultimate trophies of war.   The Jotunhunts were short but bloody, and during the decades they were in motion they saw the destruction and absolute genocide of the only nation the Giants had ever formed...a city formed of peace-loving giants who had begun to try to integrate into the society that once loathed them so. Yet, drunk on power and a lust for the powerful trophies the Giants dropped upon their death, the Dwarves and Humans razed the entire city to the ground.   Once the conflict ended, the Dwarven Gods had personally killed almost all of the Giants gods, the Giant Pantheon lay in ruins, and the giant people had all but forgotten their old ways, faiths, and culture.   So broken were the Giants afterwards that their entire species was thought to be extinct for centuries, until it was revealed that only by an oversight were the Dai-Yukai and Jotuns spared the axe...as a handful of cities had avoided attack.   The Giants, previously brutish but never particularly caring of the outside world, were consumed by burning, roiling fury afterwards...so much so that even to the current day, their hatred for the races that hunted them for no more than sport burns as brightly as the sun.
