The Sundering

Extinction

1288AF

The moment where, in a single world-changing moment, the once vibrant and verdant desert of the south was exterminated of nearly all life, where entire peoples were sent into extinction, and where the Sand Elven people as a race were driven to the brink of extinction bereft of hope and their home...the world tree.

An event that marked the end of an Age, The Sundering was a tragic event that occurred when a group of intrepid heroes set out to save the world from the Machinations of a Cult led by a High Human who was hell-bent on cleansing the world of Ea in flames and rising as a god to rule over those that remained.   In the final battle of their showdown that saw the heroes pitted against the forces of evil within an ancient High Human energy collection facility, the heroes managed to slay their hated foe and stop his plans...but, in a critical miscalculation, were unable to stop the buildup of rampant energy in the facility in time.   As the collection facility detonated, all the energy it had been collected to ascend the evil cult leader to godhood was sent tearing across the land like a wave of damnation, withering organic matter on contact. Hitting the massive divine tree known as The World Tree, the destructive waves of energy resonated through the divine tree like a lightning rod...and then, in a cataclysmic detonation, sundered the very boundaries between the planes and sent the World Tree and the Sand Elven people spiraling into the Great Beyond as the energies went rampaging across the entire desert...leaving a permanent gash on the world, the Sundering marked the greatest failure of the Age...of the heroes that had, until then, been the very icons of heroism and symbols of all the Age had stood for.
