Tenets of Faith

Edoghast is unique among the minor gods, and his teachings, while they have been transcribed to a Holy Book, are incapable of average and general understanding. His teachings are thus not distilled into a series of universal tenets, and his followers instead define their own personal tenets based around some or all of the central themes present in his holy scripture combined with the personal goals or ideals they wish fulfilled through The Stardreamer, though how they interpret these themes and/or strive to carry them out can vary. These central themes are as follows:
  • Reject Reality and its affairs. Edoghast preaches that while reality is often flawed, painful, hurtful, and cruel, dreams should and are always things of hope, of paradise, and utopia. This is interpreted as neutrality by most of his followers, in different and nuanced ways. They often strive to build a new reality at his side, in their dreams.
  •
  • Embrace sleep as a conduit to dreams. Dreams are the only time when his followers believe they can make themselves known to Edoghast, and seek to dream as much as possible.
  •
  • Daring to dream, to hope, and never stop wanting to have a better life, or attain their ultimate goal or wish.
  •
  • An obsession with the stars and with space. This can take many forms, but his followers generally see him as synonymous with stars and space, and many seek to find meaning or divine the future from the stars, believing such things to be one of the few ways they have of interacting with him or divining his eldritch will.
  •
  • Accepting the eldritch as a means to find their personal truth, dreams, and ultimate goals, even if it means abandoning the mundane world.
  •
  • Embracing Edoghast as a savior, figure of hope, or some central figure in their life that represents all they wish to achieve, receive, and accomplish.
  •
  • Finally, the ultimate goal of "Ascension", which is the ultimate state of decoupling one's body from their spirit, whereupon the faithful believe their spirit ascends into the Star Ocean and drifts with Edoghast, dreaming endlessly of paradise.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

Edoghast's Goals are all but unknown, even to his followers. He bestows dreams to many different creatures with little commonality between them, and many who try to understand his intentions often go mad or vanish into the stars.
I have flown through endless night, with starlight as my guide. Seen the universe, and the stars. Glimpsed the Stardreamer and his truth as I slept amongst the endless ocean, drifting like flotsam. I wept as I saw the beauty of it all.   And I shall never weep again.
