Personal history
As a child, his father Anias Redsun, a high-ranking military official, was accused of a terrible crime. His father was imprisoned throughout the investigation, his mother became a social pariah, and Nesen himself was suspended from the military academy.
With very limited access to their funds, they scraped by day-by-day as they mounted a legal defense. In the end, his father was proven innocent, received a governmental pardon and had his military status restored. The damage, however, was done.
Mirella - his mother - never recovered her standing among the high social circles and remained forever distant; not fully insulated, but haunted by whispering as she turned her back, and silence as her shadow betrayed her approach. This disdain trickled down the social ladder and Nesen also became somewhat of an outcast. Most of his classmates were indifferent, yet kept their distance, but some of them actively mocked him for his father's actions. The latter were scolded and punished by the teachers. After all, they would learn to respect the authority of the government and the full meaning of "official pardon".
Nesen was driven to the books and became a formiddable wizard, showing more and more promise as the years passed and he rose through the ranks of the military accademy. Nesen is quick-witted and has a bit of a silver tongue, which he developed through the rebuttal of spiteful remarks or when addressing others who may not have so obviously expressed the contempt they most-certainly felt. Because of this, Nesen has a very strong lawful-good alignment and puts the law, orders, honor and chain of command above all.

Nesen's father was posted to the Noblis Military's stabilization effort in Oxnard, following its annexation in 549. In the winter of 551, Anias disappeared from the city and is classified as Missing In Action.
Sorting his father's affairs in the darkness of his former study, Nesen sat quietly in the chair behind a large wooden desk which was littered with files, maps, and the detritus of his father's former life. A fire gently crackled and popped in the chimney behind him, but otherwise provided little in terms of warmth and light. His father would've never allowed him in during his life, and now here he was - alone.
He ran his fingers underneath the table, along the edges of the desk. Something clicked. A small compartment opened and a dusty letter was revealed. A terrible chill ran down his spine as he identified the engraving of the broken seal and his mind filled with horror as the written words were read.
A primal fear overcame him and he reactively threw the letter in the fire behind him. He stared, stunned, as the wax melted, then burned. He stared as the flames consumed the paper and he lost track of time. He thought back to his childhood and what seemed like a distant memory or perhaps a forgotten nightmare came back to haunt him - he saw something that night. He could've sworn he heard multiple voices coming from his father's study. As his father donned his cloak and left the house in a hurry, he snuck out behind him. Following him through multiple alleys, he saw his father meet with another cloaked man and a coin purse change hands.
When Nesen came to his senses, the fire had completely burned out and the cold silence taken hold of the room. The darkness was only broken by a sliver of moonlight that shone in through the window.
Perhaps his father was not as innocent as he had thought... Perhaps he had just destroyed the only evidence remaining...
