Capsized Tavern
This tavern is actually a ship run aground. A wooden ship sits on the rocky shore, its sails are taken down with bannerets blowing in their place. The entrance and façade has been built out to seem like a normal tavern building. It has a framed-out first level, so if you’re standing directly in front of it, you wouldn’t know it was a ship. Once you walk in, the three levels inside the ship have been opened up to one main bar area with two levels of balcony above it on three sides. The second level also features some larger private rooms that are often used for various forms of gambling, though gambling happens at a lot of tables here.
The tavern requires everyone to buy a drink at least once an hour to ensure that anyone who came specifically for the games at least spends money while there at the pub. To enforce this, the tavern rings a bell every hour on the half hour. At this point, the gamblers place their silver on the edge of the table. Servers then come around and replace the coin with a fresh drink. It’s become tradition for patrons to yell curses at the bell out of good spirits when this happens.
Kormaro (core-MAR-oh), a human man with mangy black hair and a patchy beard, is the owner here. He was the captain of the ship. When the ship took a lot of damage from pirates, he decided to run the ship aground. It was then the crew’s hang out for a while. They began running games of chance, which attracted the attention of many seedy characters. Through a sizeable anonymous investment, Kormaro managed to build out the space. Now it’s a very successful tavern and attracts patrons from far and wide looking to make a quick profit on cards, dice, fights, or anything they can think of.
