Mage’s Mark
Mage’s Mark is a condition afflicting beings that are of any species but mages, most notably among sentient races but it has been witnessed in flora and fauna alike by those who look for it. The Mage’s Mark appears when the potential entering from Anagenesis at the moment of conception is significantly consistent of magical potential from a Mage or a Reborn. The implications of a Mage’s Mark vary from physical weaknesses where the body is tethered to Anagenesis which can leak the child’s Potential back into Anagenesis leaving the child to wither away within years, months, or weeks, depending on the size of the tether. Only if the entire body can anchor itself to Anagenesis does this tether provide strength and vitality but this level of control is not possible for a baby to establish before its death – and most adults cannot find this leak with common ways of medicine. In other cases, the Mage’s Mark is a visible decoloration on the tips of their fingers or elsewhere on their body, most commonly after the fingers are the eyes, the face, and the chest, of the Potential’s most prevalent use of magic. This form of a Mage’s Mark makes medical professionals weary of potential tethers and leaks but by itself is harmless. Unless you are a human child with a Mage’s Mark born on the Mortal Lands and Dar Al-Asifa in particular. Dar Al-Asifa has decreed to kill all children born showing “signs of witchcraft.”
