Culture and cultural heritage

Combines the ancient human customs of Metris as well as the heavy Influence of Frostbound's tieflings. Many of these influences have become part of the culture of the swamps troglodyte and Kenku populations.

Shared customary codes and values

Leechians generally introduce themselves with a hand shake, ungloved and with as much force as each party can muster.

Average technological level

Previously reached the levels of medieval societies. Steel, plate, and domesticated animals. But recently, the Forgotten Feather with House Ursa have brought gunpowder go the region.

Common Etiquette rules

Leechians due to living in the putrid swamp tend to have a set of "inside" and "outside clothes" and wearing your outside clothes in is very impolite.

Common Dress code

No dress code enforced whatsoever, with nudity and promiscuity being thought of as normal and natural.

Art & Architecture

Dull grey stone with deep greens and browns in its color scheme. Long jagged wooden architecture from.the surrounding spruces, creating a wicked Eerie look

Foods & Cuisine

  • Most meals include not water, but watery, muddled wine as there is little fresh water in the swamp, but a lot of grapes that grow, this helps stretch the water stores they have. 
  • Pickled Swamp Fish is the only delicacy to the region as it has very few crops and little animals to hunt

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

  • LeechBurning- 88th of Goodharvest, celebrates the Council of Frostbound's killing of Rash'irkul the Leech. On this day they burn an effigy of the dragon. 

Birth & Baptismal Rites

  • The Stenching- this cultural tradition has come from ancient troglodyte birthing rites, that other members of the swamps population adopted to mock the creatures. When your child is born, they are to be dipped into the muds of the swamp and not be cleansed for another day. 

Coming of Age Rites

  • Leech's Call- many children have made it a game to, when one of them turns 12 years old, that child goes out into the swamp and tries to stay a whole night. Many believe fhe ghost of Rash'irkul calls to them in the dark.

Funerary and Memorial customs

Due to the lack of sturdy ground to bury dead, most Leechians hold burning ceremonies where they mass burn all of their dead in a big pit once a month.

Common Taboos

  • Coming inside with your outside clothes
  • Calling for rain, or eluding to the fact that it may rain (the cities suffer from monsoons and flooding)

Common Myths and Legends

  • Rash'irkul's spirit still roams the swamp it lived in for so long.
  • The swamp was once a teeming forest, but the gods cursed the land when Gal'Galed conquered the continent which I'd why nothing grows.

Beauty Ideals

Leechians have a strong sense of cultural style, seeing the wicked colors and sharp designs of ancient Abyssal civilizations as stylish, and external mutations from magical ability as a token of esteem.

Gender Ideals

Leechians have a loose bigendered societal view, however gender identity holds little influence in what you may accomplish or what positions you may hold.

Courtship Ideals

Leechian people traditionally hold duels between the newlyweds using training blades and other tournament weaponry. This symbolizes their newfound partnership as two warriors of equal standing. Common folk intermingling with Nobility is generally frowned upon, but not illegal widely.

Relationship Ideals

Leechian society expects both parties to be of equal capability in all aspects of life, shifting and trading who goes on missions out of the town and staying and taking care of home.
