Banishment of Death

Historical Basis

It is believed that long ago, those currently in inhabiting the swamp descended from an immortal people who lost this trait through some sin.   Those living along the fire line harbour a religious desire to return to that state. Perceiving and idealizing the past as a forever paradise. And so, many myths often personify death as a figure who can be confronted, tricked or imprisoned. Thus regaining this power. However, it inevitably returns.
This motif reinforces the idea that death is not merely an enemy but an integral part of the people's current existence.

Variations & Mutation

All throughout the land, stories abound of epic heros or historical figures successfully routing death as a metaphysical, or even literal, condition for everyone. And one of two consequences:

Supremacy

Many, particularly those possessing high pride, prefer hubristic and self-aggrandizing scenarios that see themselves and their people living perpetually in Utopia forever.

New Suffering

In this retelling, the people reacquire their God-given immortality, only to suffer a painful stagnation. These stories often serve as a warning, teaching audiences that mortality gives life meaning, while its absence can lead to a loss of purpose.
