The Little Bitty Justicar

The following ballad is told to children within the Scions of Justice. The Scions are worshippers of Horan, the god of justice, who work directly for the church. The Justicars are the highest members of the Church and are paladins in their own right. Horan teaches though that all must strive for justice and that there is a place for everyone to do so. Anyone that is not a Justicar within the Church is a Scion of Justice, which includes cooks, gardeners, carpenter, soldiers, priests and mages. This ballad is a short tale about a heroic Justicar, that was known to have been short of stature, but still very heroic. His name was lost to time, but the story has lived on. The Scions often join the church at a very young age, and this is one of the stories that is told to encourage them that no matter how small they are, they can still do great things if only they have the courage to stand up to adversity.     The little bitty Justicar fighting against the beast, Down came its claws and drove him to his knees. Blade in his hand he surged back to his feet, He drove his weapon forward and the blade and claws did meet.   His wounds were grievous and the freely bleed, But he would not give up, there were innocents in need. The power of his god Horan sustained him and kept him in the fight, Without his faith bolstering him he couldn’t stay upright.   Though small in stature the warrior’s courage was immense, He drove into the beast with his shield and put it on defense. The beast was surprised and was thrown off its guard, The little bitty Justicar then struck and drove his weapon in hard.   The beast was vanquished, the people of the village saved, It couldn’t stand up to Justice, no matter how badly it was depraved. The little bitty Justicar saved everyone that day, He may have been short in stature, but his heroism was on full display.   Just because one is small does not mean they can’t do great things, A hero knows no stature, and any can have the bearing of kings. One need not great power to do what is right, All one needs is the courage to stand up and fight.
