The Creation of the Murk Myth in Colarn | World Anvil

The Creation of the Murk

The Larune are an advanced and powerful species that is unmatched in the known universe in the realms of magic and technology. Not all Larune wanted to be a part of the greater Larune society, so a large group of them traveled to Colarn where the people were primitive, and the inhabitants saw them as gods. These Larune taught the locals low grade magic and also ways to improve their own limited technology. Though these outcast Larune no longer had access to the full resources of Larune society, what they had was eons beyond what Colarn's early inhabitants could ever dream of having. When the Larune tried to use their technology to advance themselves to beings of pure energy, it was done with limited success. Some Larune did disappear and dissipate into energy, though it was unknown if they truly ascended, dissipated into inert energy or simply died.  Those that didn't die turned into darker, more shadowy versions of themselves and lost much of their former identities. The surviving Larune called their shadowy former brethren, the Murk. At first the Murk did nothing. They appeared content to remain in their containment units and simply observe the unchanged Larune. What they didn't realize was that the Murk were communicating with each other and evolving at a rapid rate. The Larune never completely understood the process that created the Murk to begin with, so they had no way of knowing what was to come. After a few decades of confinement, the Murk made their move and destroyed their prison. They immediately went about consuming their former brethren and absorbing their powers. When they did this, they absorbed all the knowledge their brethren had before they were consumed and were able to study the Larune technology and gain an understanding of the universe. As they studied and gained more knowledge, the changes continued. Shadowy substances would slough off their beings and animate. There was no pattern to what was created. Sometimes shadowy creatures would form from the slough that appeared like animals, but other times people would form. The people that formed from the slough would become the soldiers and officers of the future Murk armies. The original Murk became the leaders with magical abilities powerful enough to take on the gods of Colarn themselves. Once their knowledge and population grew to a sizable level, challenge the gods is exactly what they did.

What a fascinating origin story and there is a lot of intrigue to what the Murk will become. It might be worth adding a few paragraph breaks to make it more visually appealing. This theme uses some pretty wide lines that can make long passages hard to read.
