Solidrium Enhanced Radio or SER

The Askarians have had radio as a form of communication for centuries, but the range is limited and requires a system of radio antenna to be positioned at intervals in whatever direction they need the signal to go. With the discovery of Solidrium and its ability to help facilitate the combining of magic and technology, new avenues of communication have been made possible. The range of the Soldrium enhanced signal appears to be limitless, but it can only pick up signals from other Soldrium enhanced systems. This increases operational security as no one can listen in unless they have a similar system. Askarian military outposts all over Colarn can easily keep in contact with headquarters back in Askaria and Askarian Naval vessels can keep in contact with the mainland and each other at sea regardless of the conditions at sea. Another interesting advance that the Solidrium has made is the fact that signals can even penetrate under the surface of both land and sea. Miners deep within the earth can get clear signals without needing to set up miles of wire or antenna and submersibles can keep in touch with their fleets and the mainland while hundreds of feet underwater. An underwater sea lab is being developed by the University of Askar to study the ocean's currents, conditions, sea life and topography. With SER, it will make the entire operation far simpler and cut costs as well since communicating with the surface and the University in particular was a major obstacle to be overcome before funding could be approved. Another major obstacle to the sea lab is the presence of the Nautican kingdom. The Nauticans have been at war off and on again with Askaria for over 200 years. A sea lab would probably be attacked as soon as it tried to deploy. There have been those in the Askarian Parliament that have suggested using SER in dealing with the Nauticans. One plan that is being proposed is to develop a SER unit that can still function while completely submerged in saltwater and to give a unit to the Nauticans so that diplomatic communications can be opened up between the two governments. Many doubt that this is the best plan. Some believe that getting a unit to the Nauticans is too great a risk and any messenger would simply be killed on sight. Others believe that it isn't a good idea to give Askaria's greatest and most aggressive enemy a piece of technology that could make them more of a threat if they could figure out how to produce it themselves. Despite the concerns, the scientists are still developing the new type of SER unit as it is still a good innovation to have for their own uses.
