Vendrasi
The Vendrasi, known to humanity as The Scourge, were an ancient and enigmatic alien species that once dominated vast regions of the galaxy. Cold, methodical, and utterly devoid of empathy, the Vendrasi did not wage war for conquest or expansion. Instead, they ruled with a simple, unwavering purpose: absolute control. To them, sentient life was not something to negotiate with—it was something to be used, directed, and ultimately discarded.
Biology & Physiology
The Vendrasi were towering biomechanical entities, standing between 8 and 12 feet tall, with elongated, multi-segmented bodies that blurred the line between organic life and machine. Their physiology was a grotesque fusion of chitinous plating and invasive cybernetics, forming an armored exoskeleton that constantly shifted and reconfigured itself. Their faces present a shocking visage of death, with jaws resembling the unending rictus of a skull. Their eyes were far more evolved than those of any human, their large green optical organs allowing them to perceive their surroundings in ways beyond human comprehension, detecting electromagnetic fields, radiation signatures, and even emotional states of lesser species. The exact anatomy of their bodies is still unknown as through means either biological to the species or implemented later by the cynical creatures, they dissolved totally after death, leaving nothing left behind to study. Externally though, Vendrasi had chitinous ridges and rib-like external bone structures across their bodies, with the addition of a totally varying amount of armored spine-like tentacles appendages sprouting from their backs and around their necks. They seemed to use these appendages for everything from piloting ships and mechs to lethal whipping weapons in combat.Psychology & Intelligence
The Vendrasi did not feel emotions as humanity understood them. As far as any human scientist could tell, they did not experience fear, anger, or ambition—only the drive to expand and perfect their control. Unlike many conquerors throughout history, they had no interest in diplomacy, alliances, or negotiation. When they first encountered humanity, they ignored all attempts at communication, responding instead with total annihilation of the first human colony world they discovered. Their intelligence was vast, yet utterly alien. Vendrasi thinking was structured like an interwoven network, with each individual capable of processing vast amounts of data independently while also connecting to a greater collective knowledge system via biomechanical means. This made them coldly efficient strategists, capable of predicting the movements of entire civilizations and adapting in real time. To the Vendrasi, life was a hierarchy of utility—a species was either useful or obsolete. Humanity, with its rapid reproduction rate, adaptability, and expendability, was classified as a valuable workforce rather than a species to be exterminated outright. This was the only reason humanity was allowed to survive under Vendrasi rule, unlike an unknown number of other less fortunate alien races. The Age of Enslavement
For centuries, humanity existed as little more than a labor force, scattered across countless worlds, mining, constructing, and harvesting resources under Vendrasi control. The AI enforcer legions, automated sentinels linked directly to Vendrasi command nodes, ensured that no rebellion could ever succeed. Weapons were forbidden. Space travel was prohibited. Even simple vehicles were banned from human use. The only technology humans were allowed to operate were mechs and exoskeletons, not for combat, but for labor—mining, cargo transportation, and large-scale construction projects. The Vendrasi saw no threat in allowing humans these tools, as they had been stripped of all means to resist. But over the centuries, resistance movements continued to rise and fall, each one crushed mercilessly. The Vendrasi did not retaliate out of anger—they simply eliminated all who defied them, erasing entire colonies without hesitation. The Fall of the Vendrasi
For all their intelligence, the Vendrasi had one weakness—their reliance on AI to enforce their rule. Their war machines, their security systems, even their industrial infrastructure was tied into vast, self-governing machine networks. And it was through these very systems that Vasaira Lambda’s virus would bring about their downfall. Humanity, long denied weapons, rose up using the very machines that had once enslaved them. Mining lasers became energy weapons. Plasma cutters became blades. Industrial mechs were reforged for war. The Vendrasi, outnumbered and unable to regain control, were hunted down and exterminated. The Scourge was no more.Legacy & Speculation
The Vendrasi are extinct, their once-mighty empire now a graveyard of ruined megastructures and lifeless machines. To this day, humanity remembers them only with hatred, their very existence erased from records, their technology destroyed, their cities abandoned. But there are whispers. Some say that in the deepest, darkest corners of the galaxy, remnants of the Vendrasi remain, waiting, hiding, watching as humanity rebuilds. If any of them survived, they would be without their AI networks, without their empire—but they would still have their intelligence, their cold efficiency, and their hunger for control. And if the Vendrasi were ever to rise again… Humanity would be ready, this time.
