The Red Barchetta
The Red Barchetta is a privately-owned steamship. It was originally a simple merchant vessel, but it's current owner has outfitted it to more of a queue ship so that it can better handle the war.
Power Generation
A new technology, the Red Barchetta utilizes a triple expansion steam engine. The steam engine is normally enough to operate all ship's systems. Extended use of the auxiliary screw propellers will begin to overtax and overheat the steam engine. There is a small lightning elemental contained in a backup bound elemental engine. The elemental engine may be utilized with the steam engine while the auxiliary screw props are running, but this will only add 2-3 hours at best before the the steam engine needs to be pulled back to minimal levels to allow for damage assessments and possible repairs.
Propulsion
The primary drive system is a large, single screw propeller powered by the steam engine. A smaller off-set double screw propeller system is available to increase forward speed or to run in reverse to assist with slowing the ship. No sails are present on the Red Barchetta.
Weapons & Armament
A total of 4 cannon emplacements are present on the Red Barchetta. All of the cannons are mounted to rotating mechanisms. This reduces the need for standard broadside volley tactics. The two cannons at the bow of the ship are mounted on the same rotating mechanism and have a gunnery crew of 3. The two cannons at the aft are on separate rotating mechanisms, to either side of the main cabin containing the bridge. The aft cannons can be rotated independently and each have a gunnery crew of 2.
Communication Tools & Systems
As with most sailing and air vessels, the Red Barchetta is equipped with a radio for communication purposes. The range is limited to about a mile to mile and a half. There is also a ship's intercom system to allow for quick communication between sections of the ship. Additional intercom points include the captain's quarters and first officer's quarters.
