Gnome

Gnomes hail from Old Cadrith, alongside many other races. Some of the smallest folk that make up the Cadrithic Peoples, gnomes are inventive, playful, and keenly curious.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

A gnome’s energy and enthusiasm for living shines through every inch of his or her tiny body, with expressive body language and overwhelming optimism. One of the shortest races to sail to New Cadrith, Gnomes average around 3 feet tall and weigh 40 to 45 pounds. With their size comes a shortened lifespan, usually around 50 years.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Gnomes form large, extended family units, a lot like dwarven Clans, albeit with less grudge-holding. Gnome families live communally, all chipping in to help with the work that needs doing. Many gnomes are overcome by a desire to leave and sate their ravenous curiosity, but whenever they come back home, they are still always welcomed with open arms. In this manner, gnome society acts as a revolving door, but always with residents inside to greet any returning wanderers.
Gnomes are not expected to start families, and personal freedom, coupled with the mutual understanding of communal aid, is considered paramount.

Facial characteristics

Gnomes typically have ruddy, tan or brown faces, with full cheeks and broad smiles (beneath their prodigious noses). Most gnome hair turns pale quickly, and is often wild and unkempt. Many gnomes practice self-expression in piercings, facial tattoos and paint, elaborate facial hair, and bright, personalised clothing.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Gnomes can be found generally everywhere throughout New Cadrith, although most eventually settle back down in the north-west regions, finding the south too warm, and the east too chilly. Gnomes are uncommon, but can be found in abundance in Small Quarters, found in most Great Cities, where gnome-sized accommodation and amenities are tailored for their smaller stature. Other gnomes found their own small settlements in the wilderness, dug into hills and burrows, but these are often abandoned over the Winter, unless heating solutions can be arranged. These abandoned gnome warrens are often reclaimed after the Winter by returning gnomes, after the snow melts away.

Civilization and Culture

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Gnomes, like most Cadrithic People, express faith in the Cadrithic Pantheon, with very few at all following Finality or The Tsaedo. Most gnomes fall in a nice mix of both Quintarchies, with common worship dedicated to Tarron, God of Labour, Allendda, God of Natural Order, Deitus, God of Loyalty, Armagna, God of Magic and Mapata, God of Peace.

History

Like all Cadrithic Peoples, the gnomes are refugees from the Great Disaster, settling in New Cadrith. While not adept at the manual work of building the new settlements, the gnomes demonstrated their skills to be masterful architects and designers for their new home. The Small Quarter of Firsland is an ever growing warren of gnome architecture and expansion, with the earliest tunnels having been constructed before even the Dark Winter.
