The Tsaedo

The Tsaedo is the religious doctrine practiced by the ancient elves of Old Cadrith. However, with the dominance of other Cadrithic Peoples and the Cadrithic Pantheon, the Tsaedo is only followed by a fraction of the population as a whole.   The Tsaedo is not characterised by actual deities, like other pantheons, but instead by the promise of a Good Death. In the Tsaedo, it is believed that mortal life is a stepping stone towards higher power. Therefore, it is the duty in life to strive towards a Good Death to reach this power. Those who fail to achieve a Good Death find their soul tethered, awaiting a new body to enter and strive for another Good Death in their next body.   In order to achieve a Good Death, one must obey the core tenets of the Tsaedo in life. Unfortunately, due to The Bleak and mass death of the elves of New Cadrith, many tenets of the Tsaedo have been lost. As a result, there is a great deal of confusion and disagreement on what the Tsaedo consists of, and this has caused much strife in the elvish community. While some elves attempt to follow the existing tenets to the best of their ability in the hope of a Good Death, many more have turned their back on the ancient tradition of their forebears, and instead venerate the Gods of their neighbours. For most elves, they see the Tsaedo as part of the Cadrithic Pantheon, with the Gods, their Archaspects, and their Aspects as those lucky enough to reach a Good Death. For them, alongside following the tenets of Tsaedo, they will also pledge themselves to the worship of the Cadrithic Pantheon.   The remaining core tenets of the Tsaedo are:
  • Honesty to Oneself
  • Courage
  • Benevolence
  • Respect
  • Duty to fulfil Responsibility
  • Control
Should a person fulfil these requirements, and any of the unknown ones, they may reach a Good Death, and ascend to a higher power.   Communion with those who reach a Good Death is possible by those of their bloodline, who may pray to elements of the world around them to talk to them. The object of worship is often something that was closely tied to the ancestor in question, and is required to commune. For someone closely tied to nature, one would pray to a tree or grove for communion; for someone tied to war, one would pray to ash, smoke, or blood; and so on. These ancestor spirits may take corporeal forms, or auditory or psychic ones.
