It has been just over 500 years since The Scream cut off the Cibola Sigma sector from the Terran Mandate. Over the past few centuries humanity has reclaimed the stars, but not without cost.   The Xantali Federation has become one of the strongest powers in the sector, using their vast amount of resources to strongarm their way through the sector. The Federation has begun to dedicate an extraordinary amount of resources into developing a spike drive capable of reaching the Forgotten Realm, a region of the sector with no hope of reaching, until now. While the inner systems rejoice, corruption, civil strife, and rebellion plague the outer worlds as they struggle to survive and find a voice in the iron grip of the Federation.   The People's Protectorate is on the verge of the same technological breakthrough as the Xantali Federation, but the constant attacks from pirates and lack of a unified government hinder its progress. Should they fall behind, the Xantali Federation just might become strong enough to reclaim the systems lost in the Great Rebellion.   It is now a mad dash for both powers to be the first to develop a spike drive capable of accessing the Forgotten Realm, for whoever does so first maybe soon find the former power of the Terran Mandate at their disposal.
