Cibola Sigma

Sector GP23-XY94, commonly known as Cibola Sigma, was discovered by Ana Paredes in 2353 during the Second Wave of colonization. It soon became a hot bed of colonization due to the significant number of inter-linked systems with six M Class planets habitable to human life. After The Scream in 2665, much of the sector became lost during the Silence. Currently, four of the six known Class M planets and thirty-three systems have been rediscovered, however, reliable navigation charts are limited to what each major geopolitical power provides its citizens.   Much of the sector remains impossible to rediscover due to limited spike drive technology, but it is estimated that more than ten sectors remain to be found.

History

Discovery

  After its discovery, Ana Paredes spent nearly a year exploring and recording detailed planetary resource analysis of each system in the sector. Having discovered a wealth of information, Ana did what would soon become known as one of the greatest gifts to man and sent all of her findings to every Terran Mandate connected ship, system, and planet, for free. This would allow rapid colonization from groups that would otherwise be excluded from the first wave of colonization to newly charted sectors. Soon a gold rush erupted, billions would make their way to Cibola Sigma to claim their riches or find a new home.

Pre-Scream History

  Over the next several centuries the six Class M planets had been fully colonized and soon the sector was a hotbed for trade and would act as a primary outpost for human expansion. The first three planets to be settled were Halona, Kwakina, and Matsaki. Aside from their superior habitability, it would soon prove evident that humans were not the first to discover this sector.   Shortly after major settlement operations began, alien ruins would be found on each of the three planets, dating back upwards of 4 billion years. Many settlers would come to call these entities as The Heralds. Several religions would eventually form surrounding these Heralds, saying that they left these artifacts as messages from God in order to prepare Humans for Ascension. As more of the sector was found, countless artifacts would be discovered, bringing countless questions of who this alien species was and where they came from. As researchers studied these artifacts, great strides in technology were made and would help propel colonization efforts ahead by several centuries.   Within 200 years the sector was buzzing with life with all six of the class M planets fully settled as well as numerous other less suitable planets. Several alien races would make contact with humanity, including an alien race known as the Huskers who were found to inhabit Limeda, a radioactive world previously ignored by early settlers.   Technological progress would continue right up until The Scream. Some records even suggested that scientists had finally discovered something that would allow them to harvest the same power that The Heralds wielded billions of years ago. However all that knowledge was wiped out once The Scream occurred in 2665.

Post-Scream History

  Heavily reliant on psi-tech, all but the settlements built atop ruins of The Heralds fell into chaos during the Silence that followed. Communication was quickly lost between systems as psi-tech communication began to fail. Authority of the Terran Mandate became non-existent and each system was left in charge of itself. Many of the systems that the class M planets resided were entirely self-sustainable and became the primary point of rediscovery, while most of the other settlements would experience near and total collapse of society.   Basic communication of the known Class M planets was established in 2690 and data of what remained following the Scream began to flow between the remaining governments. It was around 2705 that a young Reginald Xantali, one of the first psychics born following the Scream and the leading expert of metadimensional probability, would use much of this data to calculate that the humans that remained would face extinction level events within the next hundred years unless a circumstance could be created that would disrupt his current calculations. Xantali theorized numerous potential circumstances that may provide the requisite circumstances required to prevent the utter destruction of humanity.   Much remains unknown of what happened to Hawikuh and Kiakima;

Lost Systems

  While many of the systems of Cibola Sigma have been reconnected, the systems of Thuha, Montoro, and Mudni remain lost and none have managed to return when following old rutters

Key Landmarks

  The Veil is a point in space that hides three systems of potential interest from the rest of Cibola Sigma. It is a field of meta-dimensional energy that prevents travel to or from the system. It is theorized that a powerful enough spike drive could be created that would allow travel, however one has yet to been invented.
