The Devil's Castle

When the children that are 'in the know' of magical things, are unruly, their mothers might scold them by saying: "If you don't behave yourself, you'll end up on The Isles!"
Somewhere in the North Sea lies one of the few places in the whole world where those who are of magical nature can be sent if they've committed crimes. It's a marvel of arcane architecture and a magical curiosity why all those heavy-duty wards haven't yet collapsed due to all transmagical resonance and created a black wormhole which would cause the universe to collapse on itself.
Collectively this magical jail is called 'The Isles', because it is built on several smaller islands joined together by bridges. The Devil's Castle is the biggest and oldest part of the jail. It gets its name from the fact that the place where it was built on lies in the middle of a group of deep trenches which are called The Devil's Hole.

Purpose / Function

The purpose of the Isles is to keep the magical criminals under constant surveillance in one place. It is a top security prison, both in normal and magical ways. The Devil's Castle is the biggest and oldest part of the prison complex.

Alterations

Slowly, during the centuries, a few additions have been added. The nearby islands -or most of them just few rocks peeking out of water have been slowly transformed to extend the building complex. The Most recent addition dates to the beginning of the 21st century. The Devil's castle went through its latest uplift and effort in modernization in 2010.

Architecture
