Prompt 23: Shrine Guardians

The Shrine Maidens are made up of some of the most skilled warriors in all the city. Only second to the Knights of Salire in raw skill and power. Any foolish enough to get in the way of a guardian is asking to be killed with a swing of their sword. Not even the nobles can order one who has taken the oath to protect the shrine maiden.
For they have made a pact that transcends blood and is bonded within their very spirit. I do wonder if you can even considered them normal when you ponder what terrible powers they gained from the pact they made between the maiden and the four great spirits.

The Shrine Guardians are tasked with protecting the shrine maiden and the different shrines that serve the great guardian spirits that power the elemental generator. Made up of members of the noble family and powerful warriors from the city guard who proved themselves worthy.
The main squad of shrine guardians are made up of ten members, five of which are from noble families with the other four coming from the city guard and one being a noble hunter.
One guardian is always tasked with being at the shrine maidens side. The person tasked with this job changing based on which shrine or duty the shine maiden must perform. While the others work at stopping potential threats to the maiden.
Those chosen to be a shrine guardian must forgo their past responsibility and give up their personal connection over to their purpose of protecting the shrine maiden. It is rare for a shrine guardian to retire unless their previous shrine maiden has passed or chosen another maiden.
