Werewolf Sorceress
Werewolf magical traditions have been historically separated by masculine and feminine traditions and both have fallen considerably after the Great Purge due to the close association of male and female practitioners and the only forms of acceptable magical practice throughout most of Pro-Purge society are now the use of moonstone heirlooms and the pack magic rituals that are common among alphas to promote cohesion and bind members of a pack together. There are still some werewolf sorcerers among the older wolves, especially novas.
The types of magics performed by female practitioners tended towards healing, fertility, luck, safety, and matters of the heart and mind and were essential to female werewolf health and safety.
Career
Qualifications
Typically a sorceress would apprentice, usually to a she-wolf, though there have been some wolf-blooded healers and diviners who have led excellent careers and been called upon to teach, especially after the purging. Most would specialize in a specific area, such as medicinal folk healing and fertility or as a diviner and luck-bringer. Generally speaking, the training went on for as long as the she-wolf was with the pack the apprentice was living in and would end when the she-wolf departed to find another suitable mate in another location, typically at least a decade.
Payment & Reimbursement
Traditionally the healers and diviners living within a pack were supported by the pack with no work outside of these duties required, but some sorceresses would also assist other sentient races, especially the fae with their difficulties in getting and staying pregnant. For these services, there were traditionally services exchanged on a pack and group level, rather than transactions between individuals.
Other Benefits
Over the past few centuries with the lack of she-wolves and much of their knowledge lost, many werewolf communities are seeing the shocking results that the lack of these services can cause, especially with fertility. The rate of successful pregnancy is much lower and infant and maternal mortality rates have more than tripled, according to best estimates.
Type
Arcane
Legality
Regarding the legality of these practices, it should be noted that the werewolf community has not outlawed these activities per se, and there are many natural healer women and midwives throughout these packs who do serve much of the same functions and have an overlapping set of magical skills, but these women are very frequently targeted by hunters who take their proficiency with these magics as a sign that they are capable of shifting and, thus, execute them. It is a fine line to tread and there is a sad dearth of young women willing to become apprentice midwives.
