Hive Infernum

This collapsed mountain of steel and corpses still towers over its surrounding hivesprawl, a stinging reminder for every loyalist of what is at stake. Prior to its lockdown and eventual destruction the hive was known as Hive Aeternum and acted as the planet's and the sector's capital.   Originally founded a few years after the apocalyptic events that shaped the first settlers arrival, this hive was soon announced the new planetary capital due to its beneficial location. The nearby oceanic basins allowed for heavy and expansive industries without choking the city in its own waste and the absence of mountains in its vicinity aided the establishment of an enormous spaceport.   Strictly speaking, only the hive spires were designated as Hive Aeternum, however the surrounding hivesprawl has over time officially adopted the name Aeternum Hivesprawl. It was generally assumed that the spires as well as the hivesprawl were meant, if Hive Aeternum was mentioned in conversation. After the events of the Noctis Aeterna and the resulting lockdown of Hive Aeternum, the colloquial nickname 'Hive Infernum' became the mostly used designation, even in official circles. This holds true especially after the Ruination of Hive Infernum.

History

Measured on the immense damage dealt to the hive's superstructure, the Ruination itself happened rather gently. A spheric chunk of the hive approximately 3 kilometres in diameter and slightly off-centre simply vanished in a blinding flash of light and deafening thunder. The upper spires were suspended in the air for a split second, now disconnected from the rest of the hive, and then came crashing down into the hive's foundations turned fiery pit. The burning and smoking carcass of Hive Infernum still broods in the centre of its hivesprawl, imitating an enormous volcanic crater.   Many promethium lines still flow into the crater, feeding the churning drawn-out death throws of the former hive and the power plants buried deep into its foundation can cause earth shaking explosions, if the inferno breaches their shells.
