Kingdom of Asderaan (Az-De-Raan)
The kingdom of Asderaan is a large and powerful country located in south-eastern Mahador, famous in both Arros and Enaskia for it's unique culture and inhabitants.
History
First Age
The history of the kingdom of Asderaan begins in the later years of the First age, with it's predescesor state, the kingdom of Vacaan. It was confined to the territories along the Zamza river and the coast near present day Desdora. That kingdom was a Magitocraty, ruled by elemental mages, similar to present day Duredan.Long winter and Great Spring
The Kingdom collapsed soon after the start of The Long Winter, as the nearby giant volcano known as Mount Kimali explosed, sending tsunami waves and earthquakes that devastated the country. In the following decades, Soulbound Mages began to be born in the small surviving population. Necromancers and Shapeshifters were the most numerous types and they soon began to override the humans in a classic Etherial Proliferation event. By the time of the Great Spring, the Asderaani population where about 60% shapeshifter and Necromancer, 30% human, and 10% Elemental Mages. Most of the human population was either kicked out or migrated north by themselves, the records don't say, but by the time of the Second Age, two Asderaani kingdoms existed. Asderaan itself, and the kingdom of Dorema. The Second Age
In Asderaan, the start of the Second Age was tumultuous at best. The country was in a near constant civil war, as various groups of Shapeshifters vied for dominance. After a few centuries of bloodshed, during which the kindgom also expanded to most of southern Tarankema, the Lion clan took the crown, while the leopards, and Hyenas became the second, and third largest clans, respectively. The Hyena clan in particular specialized in military, and The Ghnari, highly trained Hyena hybrid warriors bacame the standard infantry for the kingdom. Wars with both Dorema, and Juh'tan, a small shifter kingdom to it's south resumed for most of the Second Age. Meanwhile, the leopards clan, unsatisfied with their possition under the lion clan, bid their time, waiting to strike against the Lion Clan when they were at their weakest. Finaly, as the Second Age drew to a close, the world plunged into The Fall, and Asderaan was not spared. The Fall, and the rise of the Hyena clan
The Blight did reach the kingdom, but it didn't spread much since it was caught and stopped early. However, the kingdom began sufferring from pirates as The Carathengian Empire stopped keeping them in check as they collapsed. Taking advantage of the chaotic situation, the leopard clan staged a coup d'état and seized the crown, but it was sloppy and some leaders of the Lion clan survived the purge and went on to wage a war against the Leopard clan which lasted 10 years. The war ended quickly when the Hyena clan, who's members were fightig on both sides of the civil war, regrouped and united against both the Leopards and the Lion clan. They were lead to victory by Tuhac H'drari, a charsimatic Ghnari general, who then proceaded to crown himself king, with the suport of the Hyena clan of course, and no one could oppose him, as the two other clans were greatly diminished by the war.Third Age
With the Hyena clan at the helm, wars with both the kingdom of Dorema to the north, and Juh'tan to the south, and the later was eventualy fully annexed about 100 years ago. In the north, the kingdom has greatly expanded, taking most of Dorema's territory before a peace was brokered 2 decades ago. Since then, a fragile status-quo exists between the two. Asderaan also collaborates with the Kingdom of Nhaggoria to curb the presence of pirates in the sea of storms, the Asderaani sea and the Illynian sea.Demography and Population
General Population
Despite its larger size, Asderaan is a relatively small population, which totals around 6 million people. Despite this, it is the largest state in the region by far by population as well as by land area. The second biggest country nearby, the kingdom of Dorema, barely has a population over 1 million people.Population breakdown
Asderaan's population is composed of about 75% Shapeshifters, 15% humans, 5% Elemental Mages and the last 5% is mostly Necromancers, with a few Soulweavers and Soulstridders. Most of the human and elemental mages population lives in the south-east of the country, around the bay of ivory.Territories
The Kingdom of Asderaan is located in the south-east of the Continent of Mahador. It's territory is vast and encompases many geographical regions, such as most famously the Tarankema, the largest savana in the world, but also the northerb half of the Brittle mountains, the coast along the sea of storms and the Asderaani sea to the north and the Juh'ekan hills to the south-west, beyond which lies the vast Great Sh'Maari Desert.
Military
Infantry
Asderaan is a very powerful state, both on land and at sea. Of course, on land, their fearsome Ghnari warriors are able to overwealm any opposing force with sheer strenght. They also have extensively well trained elemental mages units. Stone mages and water mages are the most numerous.Navy
At sea, they possess a larger fleet, which is mostly there to protect their extensive waters, but they also go on the offensive in collaboration with the much larger Nhaggorian fleet.Air Force
Unlike other kingdoms on the continent, such as Tomboraan, they do not have many airship. In fact, they have precisely 3, all sold to them by the Kingdom of Nhaggoria. They were originaly cargo airships, and where converted into military ships. However, they are rarely used, as they are deemed unpractical.Foreign Relations
Allied Nations
Asderaan's closest ally is the Kingdom of Nhaggoria, located across the sea, in Arros. Together, they cooperate against The Pirates of the Hydrask Isles, and trade various goods between each other. The Kingdom of Naurcia also has positive relations, as does the Kavasian Empire, although the contact between them is sparce.Neutral Nations
On the continent itself, the kingdoms of Tomboraan, Hedah and the sandwalker tribes are considered neutral by Asderaan, since the big desert between them limits trade and communications.Enemy Nations
By far, their worst enemy are the pirates of the Hydrask Isles, who in the past have plundered the coastal towns and raided their traiding ships, but are now kept in check by treaties and the Asderaani and Nhaggorian navy. On land, the kingdom of Dorema is also a formidable foe, mostly because of their Elemental Mages. Both kingdoms waged numerous wars between themselves in the past and are currently in a fragil peaceAgriculture & Industry
Agriculture
Millet is the region's staple grain, and is used extensively in many local recipes, such as Wase, Adseraani flat bread. Most of the millet is cultivated in the south and west of the country, where the weather is dryer.Industry
The kingdom's most important industry is mining, mostly done within the brittle mountains, where vast quantities of gold and tin are extracted. Asderaani textiles are also famous because they use Graxin spider silk in their production, essential for making Iken Clothes.Trade & Transport
Seabound trade is very important to the kingdom, which is why they keep a large navy to defend it from the Hydrask isles pirate. They mostly trade with south-east Arrosian countries, but also with the kingdoms of tomboraan and Duredan
