Brekken

Brekken is a popular fighting sport played amongst the human population. It is addapted from the famous Boyeken Battle practiced amongst Shapeshifters. Because of its origins, it is considered sinful to participate by the Solian temples.

History

The origins of Brekken can be traced back to The Essanian Empire. during the latter half of the Second Age. It was adapted from boyeken battles, a popular activity that Mercenary Guilds, in large majority composed of Shapeshifters, played and engaged in with each other.

Cultural Impact

While the sport is widely popular amongst many populations, the vast majority of Solian temples see it as a heretical activity and a symbol of degeneracy. This opinion largely stems from the sport's origins, which lies with Boyeken Battles, a sport created by shapeshifter clans. In Solianism, Shapeshifters are viewed quite negatively, sometimes even heretic, and so Brekken is viewed as an extention of their heretical culture.

Execution

Setup

A match is played between 1-3 people on each teams, for a maximum total of 6 player. Depending on the muber of participants in a match, the combat circle will grow in size. Each match is divided into 10 rounds. A referee gives a signal at the begining of each rounds for the players to begin.

Goal

The goal in each round in a two player match is to push your opponent outside of the battle zone for at least 2 seconds, while remaining inside the zone. For matches involving more than 2 players, the goal remains the same, however, a points system is introduced.

Point System

If an opponent is pushed outside, it counts as a point for the other team. The person that pushed the other out of the circle cannot interact with the rest of the round. Points are cumulated throughout the 10 rounds and the team with the most points wins. If, after 10 rounds, both teams have the same amount of points, another round is played, and this continues until a team gains a lead for two consecutive rounds.

Participants

Anyone can participate, although the vast majority of players are young adult men. A simplified version of brekken is also a popular activity amongst the children of Arros, along with hide and seek and Tag.

Observance

This sport can be played at any time, as unlike Boyeken Battles, it's sport of origins, Brekken does not have any real religious, cultural or political, which means that it can be played wherever or whenever its players want to.
