Session 31 – A Day In The City Of Xanathar

General Summary

Having won the battle with Kraq and his Orc companions, you look to escape the area as the crowds of witnesses, and gamblers, begin to press in offering their varying opinions of the melee.

At that moment you, however, you spot him Mothalden, you’re sure of it! How he got here you do not know but you do know that you cannot allow him to get away.. again.

You chase him through the streets, heading toward the south of the city. Feebs takes a couple of shots at him with magic missile to try to slow him down, but alas he manages to duck around a corner and escape.

Investigating the area as thoroughly as you can, despite the loud objections to street vendors and others, you can find no trace of him. He has unfortunately gotten away.

Gunkyn spots a young man clearly picking pockets while his smaller friend acts as lookout. The two boys, who call themselves Dodge and Twister. He pays them the tidy sum of 10 silver pieces to keep an eye out for Mothalden and report back to “The big green lady” (Sylbella, of course) at the Jewel of the Desert Shipping and Caravan Company by the north gate. At first Dodge objects due to Mutta having threatened to skin him alive if he ever saw him near his stables again, but Gunkyn agrees to smooth things over with Mutaa since the need for this information is so very important.

You head back to the spot of the battle with Orcs as Feebs is determined to somehow get answers out of Kraq and hopes to perhaps recover the body so he can try having him resurrected.

When you arrive, you find that all of the bodies have been loaded onto a cart to be taken away. You manage to negotiate to take Kraq’s body after a bit of bandying about – the mortician does not fully buy your story about “scientific research” but has no issues with Feebs admitting that he and Kraq had a history and he wants revenge, or at least some answers. The mortician even directs you to a part of the city where you might find someone willing to accommodate your needs for the right price.

After stopping by the Caravan to warn Mutaa of Dodge’s possible appearance and convincing him not to “skin him alive” on sight, you head to the northeastern inner city to find someone who can resurrect Kraq for questioning.

You find, not a temple, but an oddities shop run by a man named Harlex who wears a holy symbol identifying him as a cleric of Vecna.

He is able to offer you either the chance to simply speak with Kraq for a sum of 500 gold pieces, or he can fully resurrect him for 20,000. You decide simply speaking to him is fine and even negotiate the price down to 300 in exchange for allowing Harlex to keep the body for his “experiments” afterward.

Harlex spends the next 10-15 minutes preparing for and casting speak with dead, reminding you that you only can ask five questions before Kraq’s body will again lay dormant.

Feebs is able to determine that only he and Kraq survived the attack on their village by the orcs two years ago. They orcs were part of a group called Ragtag’s Raiders, which range all of the The Wilds. He is also able to recognize the orc’s tattoos and symbols as being the same ones that raided Figlorn Village.

With that, you head back to the Caravan stables to rest and await any word of Mothalden while you prepare to leave for The Library of the Kobalt Soul in a couple of days.
