Perception

Sense rolls include Vision rolls, Hearing rolls, Taste/Smell rolls, and all rolls that use special senses such as Scanning Sense Sonar, Vibration Sense, and Incantation Sense. To notice something using a given sense, roll against your Perception, modified by any applicable Sense Altering Advantages.

Vision Rolls

A Vision Roll is made whenever it is important that your character sees something. To spot something deliberately hidden, it usually requires an opposed quick contest between your Vision and the concealment skill used to hide the object/person. In some cases Observation or Search skills can be used to replace your Vision roll.

Darkness Penalties:

0: Daylight
-1: Dim indoor lighting, Bonfire
-2: Large Campfire, Fireplace
-3: Torchlight
-4: Half to Full Moon
-5: Candlelight or Crescent Moon
-6: Overcast Half to Full Moon
-7: Clear Starlight with Crescent Moon
-8: Clear Starlight with New Moon
-9: Overcast Starlight
-10: Total Darkness


Hearing Rolls

A Hearing Roll is mad whenever it is important that you hear a sound.
Modified by: distance and loudness of the sound (below), amount of surrounding noise

Hearing Distance

Each level on the list below is the range at which you can hear a sound at no penalty. For each level that you are closer, apply a +1 to the roll and for each level that you are more distant, apply a -1
1/4 yrds: Leaves rustling
1/2 yrds: Quiet conversation
1 yrd: Normal conversation
2 yrds: Light traffic
4 yrds: Loud conversation
8 yrds: Noisy office
16 yrds: Normal traffic
32 yrds: "Quiet" rock band
64 yrds: Heavy traffic
128 yrds: Jet takeoff
256 yrds: Very loud rock band
512 yrds: Metallica


Taste/Smell

Taste and smell are two manifestations of the same sense. Make a Taste roll to notice a flavor or a Smell roll to notice a scent.
