The Day Destruction Saved
While it is true that a great number of stories of Norentha portray her as a careless destroyer, there are stories out there that prove she cares somewhat for mortals. This is one such story.
Jakular was always rather inspired when it came to creating life. He was always obsessed with creating the most efficient life form. Until he was successful, that is. The Wibovites devoured everything. Plants, animals, dirt, stone, each other, nothing could satisfy their hunger. After a great loss of life and heroic efforts by many, the Wibovites were stuck deep within the Time Frozen Wastes. Years passed, and eventually they were seen beginning to emerge. It was the work of a cleric of Norentha that saved the day.
This cleric went to the snout emerging from the time warp, and channeled the void much more effectively than any cleric before or since. The Wibovites had to be shredded down to nearly nothing. This cleric, Tulena, was able to create a true piece of the consuming void, and used it to dismantle and consume the Wibovite. The wizards in Harkinmont made their decision, and Norentha informed the cleric that they had made the wrong one. The Wibovites would survive. When she left, there was an enormous and intricate pattern in front of Tulena. She did not sleep for the next 3 days, as the wizards made their preparations. Finally, she understood the pattern, and what it meant.
When the wizards started their incantation to begin speeding time in the Wastes, Tulena was already nearly done with her own incantation. She turned herself into the void
incarnate, using her own body to power the spell. Soon it was complete, and the cleric stretched her new form over the borders of the waste. She was parchment thin, but still darker than the night sky. The void unmade each of the Wibovites as they were expelled from the Wastes with enough force to launch them to the far reaches of the land to begin their feeding anew.
Everyone else only relates the part of the cleric destroying the snout, for wizards are egotists, and these could not admit they'd been wrong. Tulena was no longer able to argue her case or contribution, as shortly after the Wibovites were destroyed, her new form imploded in in itself, and she died.
This tale was related to the clergy of Norentha by the goddess herself, to ensure that her follower's sacrifice was never forgotten. She became a saint: Tulena of the Void. It is said that there is an order who teach her ways, using her wand, which was spared the destruction, but is now black as the void itself.
